Former Tennessee Titans quarterback Vince Young threw his support behind Marcus Mariota.

Former Tennessee Titans quarterback Vince Young had some words of encouragement for recently-benched quarterback Marcus Mariota, and he even threw his support behind the embattled QB.

Word came down from the team officially on Wednesday that Mariota would be replaced by fellow quarterback Ryan Tannehill in Week 7, as head coach Mike Vrabel explained he was looking to create a spark for a struggling Titans offense.

When the news broke of the move being official, Young had a message for Mariota on Twitter.

Young also tweeted this photo of him and Mariota to show some extra support.

When speaking to the media on Wednesday, Mariota expressed his disappointment in not being the starter for the foreseeable future but took the blame, saying it was “totally on my shoulders.”

It’s no surprise Mariota is handling this with the kind of professionalism he is. The Titans quarterback has always done the right thing no matter the situation, and there’s no doubt he will continue to be a great team player and help Tannehill in any way he can.

That’s what makes this move so bittersweet. On one hand, his struggles were apparent and certainly weren’t helping what is a broken offense all around, but on the other hand Mariota is such a great person and easy to root for, which only serves to make this situation more difficult.

I don’t think there’s a single Titans fan out there who doesn’t want to see Mariota succeed, and if he were to get a second chance in 2019, we’ll all be in his corner.

But for the time being, this is Tannehill’s team and he’ll be the one tasked with getting this offense back on track. It will be no small order, though, as this offense has issues that extend far beyond who is playing quarterback.
