Did the Tennessee Titans waste an opportunity to get better Saturday?

Did the Tennessee Titans miss a chance to get better?

With a long week in front of them, it looks like the Tennessee Titans may have missed a chance to improve their roster.

Thursday Night Football is a hotly debated topic given how many more injuries tend to occur on those nights and how many times the home team wins because of the sheer difficulty of getting a team ready and to a different state in just a few days.

For Titans fans, it has been a miserable experience that has led to questions about everyone from the quarterback, offensive line, head coach, and all the way up to the general manager.

With time to regroup, it looked like a great opportunity for the Titans to assess their issues and figure out exactly what the problems were.

For example, Jamil Douglas got demoted at the end of the game for a guy that they had cut (Aaron Stinnie) and it looks like his career with the Tennessee Titans should be done and after his most recent tape it is going to be hard for him to earn a spot on a 53-man roster going forward.

The Titans had a chance to rectify one of their biggest mistakes and cut Jamil Douglas without risking depth on the OL since rookie Nate Davis should take over the starting spot on Sunday if anyone in the building is concerned about improving the offense at all.

Here is just a taste of the names that you could have brought in for a workout and potentially signed without messing up anything else on your roster (since the Titans were already carrying an extra offensive lineman):

Nick Perry, EDGE (20 sacks in the last 3 years)

Muhammad Wilkerson, DT (since they clearly aren’t sold on Matt Dickerson, Brent Urban or Austin Johnson)

Jay Ajayi, RB (since they need to upgrade at RB2)

Willie Henry, DT (Dean Pees familiarity)

Stefen Wisniewski, iOL (ZBS interior OL that could probably be an improvement at right or left guard to be honest)

The extra time gives you the chance to bring in someone like those guys and get them acclimated to the team and a full week of practice to see where they are physically or mentally. Outside of the bye week, this is the only chance during the season that you can do that.

I hope that this means that the coaches are considering these losses on themselves and that they believe they can produce better with the team they already have. However, if the problems they have now don’t get better, I am afraid they will look back at this chance and see it as a missed opportunity.
