NFL power rankings Week 2: Tennessee Titans surge upwards
By Will Lomas
This one was actually tough which you may not believe, but I believe that people are ranking the Houston Texans entirely too high and I’ll tell you why.
Deshaun Watson is electric in space, but he just seems to be a magnet for contact. He runs into sacks, gets happy feet in the pocket and scrambles away when there isn’t even pressure in his face.
On top of that, he doesn’t like to take care of the ball and throws some awful deep passes that are either picked off, miss or are saved by the talented receivers on that roster.
Aside from Watson’s issues with getting the ball out and living to throw another day, the line in front of him seems to actively be trying to kill him. In Week 1 alone he was sacked 6 times which was most in the NFL.
Not only are they still bottom of the NFL, but they traded away their future for Laremy Tunsil and he allowed two sacks by himself.
The other big concern is that the defense just really doesn’t have many playmakers. I know you are going to suggest J.J. Watt, but do you know how many tackles the 30 year old defensive lineman had? Zero.
He was a non-factor and while there is time for him to get better and reclaim his old form, it is important to remember the trauma that he has been through and how he is now without Jadeveon Clowney.
The Texans had a good showing which is why they didn’t move down the list, but with all the hits Watson is taking and with the defense not really doing it for me, I am not high on the Titans rivals.
