The Tennessee Titans make a semi-surprising non-cut and what it could mean.

In all the hilarity that was the Jadeveon Clowney trade for nothing, you may have missed a potentially big piece of news from the Tennessee Titans.

With rosters becoming finalized (kinda) in just a few hours, teams are frantically making tough decisions.

The Titans are obviously no exception, and they made the bold choice of keeping Kalif Raymond on the roster:

I wrote about this in my 53-man roster projection yesterday:

Those four are the absolute locks, but then it comes down to Tajae Sharpe, Taywan Taylor and Kalif Raymond for the last two jobs.

"Kalif Raymond is the surprise name I will pick, not because he has looked exceptional but because he has played significant special teams reps this preseason which is what separated Deontay Burnett and Cameron Batson when all was said and done in 2018.…I believe that Taywan Taylor will make the roster if they can’t find a trade partner for him. However, I think that deal gets done and he is moved to a team that can give him a better opportunity which is why he doesn’t make this list."

Putting those pieces together would obviously suggest that the Titans do have a deal in place for Taywan Taylor.

With a potential trade looming, I should say that Raymond could have made the team on his own. He was exceptional in week 1 of the preseason and showed toughness and reliability throughout camp and in the games.

If the Titans view him as Cam Batson part 2 (which I think they do) then he is a perfect fit. He may not be active every week and he shouldn’t see the field offensively too often, but he does have the ability to make plays and give you a reliable presence on special teams.

With trade speculation on Taylor going as far back as the 2019 NFL Draft, it is no secret that he has been one of the bigger names that the Titans could have offered in a trade. Now comes the reckless speculation on which teams could be interested in moving for a high risk, high reward WR.
