Gil Brandt is (rightfully) a big fan of the Tennessee Titan QB situation.

Today NFL.com’s Gil Brandt said that the Tennessee Titans have the most enviable QB situation in the NFL.

Maybe that intro sold Brandt short, I should say the Hall of Fame GM and the architect of the Dallas Cowboys dynasty thinks the Tennessee Titans have the most enviable QB situation in the NFL.

While some people probably expect this has something to do with Ryan Tannehill being in Tennessee…well, you are right.

Obviously not as the starter, but as someone he describes as:

"…the best backup quarterback in the NFL, a former first-round pick in his own right who showed in Miami he has what it takes to carry a team to the playoffs. (Though he missed the 2016 postseason with a torn ACL, Tannehill started 13 games for the Dolphins that season.)"

So if he loves Tannehill as a backup, does he think there is any controversy with the Tennessee Titans?!

No. Of course he doesn’t, instead he actually raves about what Marcus Mariota could be this season:

"But this ranking is as much about the man behind Mariota as it is about the former No. 2 overall pick. Before we get into that, I have to say, I really like Mariota. He has tons of upside, excellent speed and top-notch athletic ability, and he’s shown flashes of fulfilling his considerable potential. Ideally, the presence of Tannehill will help bring out the best in Mariota."

That is some good stuff there.

This says what a lot of people who actually watch the Tennessee Titans on a consistent basis have said. The questions about Marcus Mariota should never have been about ability, he clearly has that. He has proven that he can drag a team to the playoffs with very little help by the surrounding cast on offense.

The questions he needs to answer are about durability and confidence.

When Marcus Mariota is on, just look at what he can be. In November last year he:

-Led a comeback, dominating win against the Dallas Cowboys on Monday Night Football.

-Beat the New England Patriots bad enough for them to bench Tom Brady in the 4th quarter.

-Went 22 of 23 for 2 TDs and no INTs against the Houston Texans on the road.

That was what he was last year when he could feel his throwing hand and before he got hurt.

Again, it isn’t hard to see why there should be a lot of upside with Marcus Mariota this year. With new and improved weapons all over the field, a better offensive line and what should be an upgrade at OC, the stage is set for him to be great.

Now all he has to do is go out there and play his game.
