What to take away from the Tennessee Titans morning-after press conference.

Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel is someone who doesn’t give out information easily.

So, when you listen to him speak and he gets into specifics you should take notes because he very rarely says anything to the media that he doesn’t really believe.

With that in mind, these things stood out the most to me from this morning’s press conference.

On why Harold Landry hasn’t played in a preseason game yet:

-It sounded like Vrabel knew exactly how thin the Tennessee Titans are at EDGE when he talked about this, because he basically said that he was treating him like a veteran.

He knew that the Titans need a big season from Landry and with him doing well in practices and looking technically sound and in shape, there was no reason to see much more from him.

On if there will be some game plan involved this week:

-Vrabel said that the Titans won’t have a complete breakdown of teams like they would in the regular season, but that they will note the tendencies and habits of the players and coaches in certain situations.

It sounds like this is going to be as close to a regular season prep week as you could expect, so the adjustments and potentially pregame changes in personnel will be interesting to watch.

On the trust between Marcus Mariota and Delanie Walker:

-Marcus Mariota (obviously) has immense trust in Walker, which showed on the TD pass and the 3rd down conversion. It sounded like Walker really wanted to get some live reps to make sure he was in shape to go when the season started.

At this point I don’t expect Delanie Walker to sit in the preseason, but I don’t know how much more you really need to see from him at this point.

On whether Derrick Henry is close to coming back:

-Like he has said and insinuated all preseason, the Tennessee Titans focus is on getting better in the preseason, but not at the potential cost of a guy rushing back from a minor injury.

The Titans will take their time with Henry and let him heal completely before bringing him back.

On competition at right guard:

-It sounds like the Titans still don’t have an answer at right guard and the competition will go on another week. Vrabel likes the effort being given, but putting the pieces together it stands to reason that neither player has proven themselves to be better than the other.

When asked about Corey Levin he basically said that he sees Levin as a center who can also play guard. He thinks his versatility will help him stay on the roster for a long time, but really seemed to suggest that the only way he would see the field is if he started at center at some point.
