5. People remember the down, but not the ups

In the Marcus Mariota era, there have been so many times when this team has let the fans down.

Downs:

2016: In Jacksonville with the playoffs on the line, the Titans lose to a bad team and Mariota gets injured.

2017: At home against the Oakland Raiders, the phantom OPI call against Andre Johnson leads to a heartbreaking loss instead of another potential game winning drive for Mariota.

2017: Losing three straight on the West Coast to force Week 17 to be a play in game for a playoff spot against the best version of the Jacksonville Jaguars ever.

2018: A road loss to the Buffalo Bills after Nick Williams drops the go-ahead touchdown.

2018: Failing the 2-point conversion against the L.A. Chargers in London to lose the game.

People seem to remember those losses and feed off of those things as way to bring down the Titans as a whole and Marcus Mariota’s “inability to take over a game”, but they never talk about the big moments.

Ups:

2016: Marcus Mariota and the Titans hang 47 points on the Green Bay Packers

2017: Mariota comes back from an injury early and beats the Indianapolis Colts on Monday Night Football.

2017: The Titans finish off the Legion of Boom in Nashville.

2017: Despite a surprise comeback from the Cincinnati Bengals, Marcus Mariota leads the team down the field and hits DeMarco Murray for the go-ahead TD with second left in the 4th quarter.

2017: Completing a sweep against a Jacksonville Jaguars team that everyone though were Super Bowl bound to earn a spot in the playoffs.

2017: Beating the Kansas City Chiefs in the biggest 2nd half comeback in playoff history.

2018: Winning at home against the defending Super Bowl Champs when Mariota threw a TD pass to Corey Davis in OT instead of settling for a tie vs the Philadelphia Eagles.

2018: Absolutely thumping the Dallas Cowboys on MNF and the New England Patriots in back to back weeks for a combined score of 62-24.

2018: Mariota going 22 of 23 against the Houston Texans.

2018: Winning 4-straight in December and every game that Marcus Mariota played in to force a Week 17 win-and-in scenario despite being 2-4 before the bye week.

Did you notice how many high moments there were compared to the low moments? Still, people will say that Marcus Mariota’s career has been a mixed bag.

Sure, I guess if someone gives you a bag full of gold bars and there are a few pennies thrown in there it has been a “mixed bag” but you have to know a good thing when you see it.

So if you bring up the low moments, be sure to bring up the high moments as well.
