Tennessee Titans get a Pro Bowler back.

And just like that, the Tennessee Titans defense in nearly at full strength with Jurrell Casey being brought off of IR.

The biggest question coming off of the Philadelphia Eagles game (in my mind at least) was what the Titans could do to improve the defensive tackle position.

Daquan Jones looked much better than last year already, but no one next to him stepped up. Right now the only three defensive tackles that I think the Titans have as NFL-caliber starters are: Casey, Jones and Jeffery Simmons.

With Simmons set to start the season on injured reserve or on some sort of injury restriction, there isn’t a lot of room for error at that position.

Isaiah Mack has shown the most potential as a sleeper at the position, but right now I would think Titans are looking to add another body there during the waiver wire purge.

I still don’t expect Casey to play in the preseason except for a few snaps against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 3. However, it may be even more important to see how he does against the New England Patriots in their joint practices coming up.

If he practices fully in those then the Titans really don’t need to see him at all before the season starts.

One side note to all of this is, will the mentoring between Jeffery Simmons and Casey continue?

For weeks now the two have worked side-by-side on the practice field as they have been recovering from their injuries.

While we haven’t seen the results of that relationship yet, it can’t hurt to have one of the most intelligent and hard working players on the roster (who actually plays your position) give you tips and critiques as you try to develop from an SEC star to an NFL starter.

I hope we see a lot of them continuing to work together as the preseason continues and maybe even see Casey take some veteran days off and go over to Simmons on the side field and help him work.

Casey is a team captain through and through, and I would expect nothing less than this kind of attention. However, I should say that it certainly isn’t his job to coach up Simmons, I would just really like to see it.
