Which running backs should you be eyeing as fantasy football handcuffs for Derrick Henry.

If you somehow missed it yesterday, the Tennessee Titans most valuable fantasy football player Derrick Henry didn’t practice and was in a walking boot.

It is ultimately impossible to know how injured Henry is because of how tight lipped Mike Vrabel is about injuries this (or any) time of year.

In all likelihood we won’t see Henry again until the New England Patriots preseason game at least.

Fantasy football players in deeper leagues need to be ready in case Derrick Henry’s injury prevents him from playing at all in the preseason, which is possible if for no other reason than the Tennessee Titans want him at full health for the regular season.

If you are sold on the Titans running the offense through the running backs, you definitely need to know which players to target as his handcuff. There are only three real options right now.

More from Titans Fantasy Football

1. Dion Lewis

In dynasty leagues I would stay away from Lewis because I think he is more likely to end up somewhere like New England or with the Detroit Lions in 2020 than with the Tennessee Titans.

With a cap crunch coming up, cuts or restructures will have to be made and Lewis has a lot of non-guaranteed money right now.

However, Lewis is going to get a lot of volume in the passing game and on third downs with or without Derrick Henry.

Without him though, Lewis may turn into a viable RB2 especially in PPR leagues if you trust that Arthur Smith will find ways to get his playmakers the ball in space.

2. David Fluellen

If you are in deep leagues, this is a sneaky name to keep an eye on.

Fluellen is going to make the Titans roster because he is a solid special teams player and is adding bulk to play fullback this season. That bulk could turn him into the power runner that the Titans look out with Derrick Henry absent.

Don’t forget, last year the Titans tried to make Fluellen a part of the offense and looked on pace to give him 10+ carries until he had a major injury late in the year.

3. Alex Barnes

This is your super-deep-dynasty-handcuff target.

The chances that Barnes makes the roster is about 50/50 in my opinion, but he will definitely be on someone’s roster and if not he will be on the Titans practice squad.

It is important to note that Barnes may only have value to a team on offense and not on special teams, so if he is active on any team expect to see him touch the ball at some point.

With above average athleticism and above average college production, he has all the potential to be a best ball sleepers in 2019 and someone who actually gets some real touches in 2020. A Derrick Henry injury could accelerate that timeline.
