Could Tennessee Titans land a Pro Bowl DL in July?

The Tennessee Titans have one of the best rosters in the NFL and it could get even better after the Green Bay Packers cut Mike Daniels this morning.

According to multiple reports (I first saw it from Mike Garafolo embedded below) the Packers have indeed released Mike Daniels.

This is shocking to a lot of people, but maybe the writing should have been on the wall last night:

Daniels isn’t getting cut because he is bad, he is getting cut because a new defensive scheme and a huge class of front-seven additions made him the odd man out with that contract.

Now that every team in the NFL other than the Packers are trying to figure out ways to get Mike Daniels on their roster, it makes sense that Tennessee Titans fans are interested.

After dreams of Ndamukong Suh and Gerald McCoy for so long, maybe Mike Daniels is the veteran DT that the Titans front office and coaching staff will actually take a look at in free agency.

More from Titan Sized

The Tennessee Titans have to find ways to get pressure up the middle this year that don’t always involve Jurrell Casey. While Rashaan Evans and Jayon Brown are more than capable of getting in the face of a quarterback, wouldn’t it be nice if all three of those guys had an easier job because there was a mauling DT in the middle that could keep them clean?

Jeffery Simmons has every chance in the world to be great once he is healthy, but Mike Daniels is two things that he is not:

1. Daniels is healthy and should be able to play in Week 1 of the 2019 NFL season. That is a big deal when you consider that Simmons is (at best) 10 weeks away from seeing the field as a professional.

2. He is a known commodity. Without getting too much into where Mike Daniels wins (because we are doing a more detailed look later) he has nearly a decade of tape where he plays like one of the best DTs in football. Where else can you get that in July?

The Titans need a boost at DT, but maybe more importantly they need to keep him away from the Houston Texans or Indianapolis Colts if they can. Make your teams stronger and keep theirs weaker all in one move, that could be the rare double play by Tennessee Titans GM Jon Robinson if they go after Daniels.
