Biggest takeaway from the Tennessee Titans OTAs on Tuesday.

The Tennessee Titans started OTAs this week and there is plenty to talk about.

I want to take the biggest storyline or notable thing from each OTA and talk about it here because when you try to cover every little thing that happens you can sometimes miss the forest for the trees.

On Tuesday, the biggest thing I noticed was Titans rookie receiver A.J. Brown.

Deep breaths. This is the first real week of his NFL career, but you have to be really encouraged from what you have seen and heard about Brown so far.

It isn’t one play or a flash of brilliance, he is showing signs of sustained excellence or at the very least someone with the work ethic to constantly work and hone his craft.

This goes back to the draft process where people heaped praise on his attention to detail and his work.

Nate Burleson broke down the nuances of the receiver position and how Brown showed the traits you need to be NFL ready in this video.

-Dane Brugler said Brown was an “…Obsessive worker with the competitive nature and work ethic that rubs off on his teammates…” in his draft guide.

-When ESPN polled CFB writers before the season about which receiver in the nation would have the best season Brown beat out every other receiver in college football 4 votes to 3 combined (with 3 different receivers getting votes).

You can go on and on, but that is just setting the stage to understand his talent, refinement and work ethic. That can only get you in the door in the NFL.

Since he has been in Tennessee, he has been the last player (rookie or vet) off the field in practice constantly working on his game. Luke Worsham had this video from the end of practice yesterday:

That is Brown working with Corey Davis on his releases after practice. He actively sought him out, knowing that he needs that veteran mentor and Davis is the perfect guy to help him given they had similar college careers.

It is very early in the process and I am not predicting the Hall of Fame, Rookie of the Year, a Pro Bowl season, or even that he will lead the Titans in receiving.

What I am saying is that A.J. Brown left Ole Miss heavily decorated, despite being a slight afterthought thanks to the hype machine that was D.K. Metcalf. Brown quietly entered the draft holding Ole Miss school records in career receiving yards (in just three seasons), single game receiving yards, and single season receiving yards.

Consistent dominance is what that demonstrates, and his actions so far don’t show an entitled player or someone who expects to have anything give to him. Instead, he is a hungry receiver who is outworking everyone and who is seeking guidance from veterans on how to attack the league.

It is early, but you should be very optimistic that Brown is doing everything possible to get the most out of his considerable talent.
