What do the Tennessee Titans pre-draft visits tell us?

There may be more info leaking out, but for right now I think we know most of the Tennessee Titans official visit list.

Each team gets 30 official visits so it is pretty important who they do bring in and at what position. Jon Robinson has often talked about how crucial those visits are in press conferences often saying “You only get 30 of them.”

Now, to be fair the Titans didn’t have Rashaan Evans in the building before the draft, but they spent a lot of time with him at his pro day and felt comfortable with what he was on the field and who he was off of it.

So, while not absolutely necessary, these visits do often tell us something.

What did they tell us this year? Well let’s take a look.

Defense or offense?

Of the 28 visits I have a record of, the defense is the best represented with 16 of those visits belonging to that side of the ball.

That makes sense because when you talk to people or look at this class you see a ton of defensive talent sprinkled throughout the draft and especially up top.

What positions are the heaviest?

The two positions that were clearly targeted were EDGE and wide receiver.

There were 7 EDGEs in total that visited with the Titans including top-12 talents like Brian Burns and Clelin Ferrell. At wide receiver, there were 5 with Hollywood Brown being the only receiver that I could see going in the first two rounds.

Most surprising visit?

Of all the listed visits, there are two visits that stick out the most.

The first is Ed Oliver, because unless the Titans were considering a big move up it was always a really long shot that he was going to make it out of the top-10. Does that mean that they aren’t completely ruling it out or that they believe there are reasons why he could fall?

Secondly, Tytus Howard is someone they brought in that I don’t think fits the Tennessee Titans needs. He is a 6’5 320+ lb OT who is a developmental player. I mean maybe you try him at guard for a year and then consider transitioning him to replace Jack Conklin? But if that is the plan you are imagining that you are going to give up a top-100 need for a developmental player?

What does this mean?

To me, it means that the Tennessee Titans are more interested in EDGE and WR early in the draft and that they didn’t see anyone on the interior offensive line that they really loved. The wild card in this whole thing is DL, where the Titans did have three visits all of which will probably be drafted in the first two rounds.

Based purely on this list, I think this is what the Titans think their needs are:

1. EDGE

2. WR

3. DT (but only if they can get an impact player)

4. iOL

Sleeper need: OT depth

1. Marquise Brown WR, Oklahoma

2. JJ Arcega-Whiteside WR, Stanford

3. Jalen Hurd WR, Baylor

4. Deiontae Johnson WR, Toledo

5. Gary Jennings WR, WVU

6. Jachai Polite EDGE, Florida

7. Clelin Ferrell EDGE, Clemson

8. Brian Burns EDGE, FSU

9. L.J. Collier EDGE, TCU

10. Jaylon Ferguson EDGE, Louisiana Tech

11. Joe Jackson EDGE, Miami
