Who visited with the Tennessee Titans at the 2019 NFL Combine.

The biggest advantage to the NFL combine over pro days for NFL teams, including the Tennessee Titans, is getting to see how prospects react under pressure.

Imagine being a prospect and going into a building where every aspect of your game is taken apart and examined in meeting rooms. Now spliced in between that, are events that put a number to your athleticism and those numbers can literally cost you or make you millions of dollars.

Oh, and when you aren’t doing all of that you could be up early into the morning being examined by medical personnel knowing that you have to get up in a few hours and do it all over again.

That is what life is like for an NFL prospect at the NFL combine.

So, while these players will get a chance to connect with teams on a deeper level during the pro day or official visits, the first impression is always huge.

On the NFL side of things, you have to choose your interviews wisely. The rules are that you get up to 60 interviews for 15 minutes each with prospects.

With those restrictions alone you can gather that how teams use these interviews in terms of position grouping is almost more important for analysis than the individual names.

There are some examples of defensive minded coaches interviewing quarterbacks who may end up in their division just so they can see what makes them tick. However, the majority of these interviews have to be focused.

While I know this is an incomplete list, this is the list I have so far of players that the Tennessee Titans did talk with in some form or fashion at the combine:

1. Chris Lindstrom IOL, Boston College
2. Erik McCoy IOL, Texas A&M
3.Connor McGovern IOL, Penn State
4. Ross Pierschbacher IOL, Alabama
5. Alex Bars IOL, Notre Dame
6. Trey Pipkins OT, Sioux Falls
7. Montez Sweat EDGE, Mississippi State
8. Clelin Ferrell EDGE, Clemson
9. Ed Oliver IDL/EDGE, Houston
10.Christian Wilkins IDL, Clemson
11. Daylon Mack IDL, Texas A&M
12. Charles Omenihu IDL, Texas
13. Khalen Saunders IDL, Western Illinois
14. A.J. Brown WR, Mississippi
15. KeeSean Johnson WR, Fresno State
16. Jordan Scarlett RB, Florida
17. Joejuan Williams CB, Vanderbilt

The majority of the interview that we know about seem to be focused on DL and IOL. While only two players are listed at EDGE and WR, I would imagine that there were more that we don’t know about yet.

Aside from that, it is interesting to see the Titans talk to Joejuan Williams. He is a 6’4 CB who ran a 4.62 at the combine and while he doesn’t quite have the elite production that Jon Robinson looks for in a CB, he is athletically gifted and is from Nashville so he is someone they will probably continue to look into as the draft rolls along.

Maybe Williams will be the Titans first 4th round pick in the Jon Robinson era, but I think it is wishful thinking to imagine him falling that far.

One last note is you may see that I have Ed Oliver listed as DL/EDGE which seems contradictory, but the Titans did ask him if he could play EDGE and his response was “I can play literally anywhere on the front-seven.” which I am sure they loved.
