The Tennessee Titans seem poised to be movers in the 2019 NFL Draft.

More and more often I see 2019 NFL Mock Drafts with the Tennessee Titans drafting players that are fine, but I don’t know how well they fill a need compared to the value.

Matt Miller posted a mock draft today with Hollywood Brown (WR, Oklahoma) going to the Tennessee Titans in the first round and it is one of the mocks that I have been most excited about considering who they get in round two (go ahead and check out that mock draft here).

However, too often I see guys at positions of need being drafted but they are all players that feel like reaches for me at 19 or guys that I have some major concerns about.

If the Titans are really going to try to make the most of the draft they are going to have to move out of the 19th pick, a pick that has been marred by underwhelming talent to say the least.

I’m not a big believer in picks being cursed or unlucky or anything like that, but I think sometimes picks fall into stereo types. For example, top-5 picks usually are trade bait, 6-14 are usually solid BPA picks, 15-20 are usually spots where you get the guy that miraculously fell out of the top-10 falling, etc.

For the 19th pick and picks in that range, it feels like a pick where players at positions of needs don’t feel like such a reach in the context of where you are drafting. For example, if the Titans are on the clock at 19 and the 6th best EDGE is on the board, even if he is a fringe 1st round pick instead of a guy that you love, this is the range where those guys go if that makes any sense.

Guys like Jawuan James, Cam Erving, Justin Pugh, and Shaq Lawson all felt like solid picks at the time but the were more a marriage of reaching for talent and trying to fill a need.

While that sounds great on paper, remember that is not what Jon Robinson does. We saw it with Jack Conklin, Harold Landry, Rashaan Evans, and Taywan Taylor. When Robinson sees that the board is getting thin at players he likes or if he feels like he needs to jump someone to land his guy, he makes the move.

So the more I see from mock drafts around the internet, the more I think that there is a good chance that Jon Robinson tries to make a move up to secure an actual game changing talent for the Tennessee Titans this year.

If he can’t do it, then it wouldn’t surprise me at all to see him move down and gain more picks instead of settling for a guy who he doesn’t love over some guys who will be available on day 2.

It will be interesting to look at the combine interviews and the guys the Titans bring in for visits, but as it stands now it would take a pretty precipitous fall from one of the better names in the draft for the Titans to just be able to stick and pick at 19.
