Tennessee Titans need to check in on some trade rumors.

Since GM Jon Robinson’s first year, the Tennessee Titans have been one of the most active teams on the trade market in the NFL.

Even as recent as the trade deadline, there were rumors that the Titans were in talks to land some receivers before other teams stepped in and raised the price too high.

Given his nature, I almost guarantee that Robinson has been on the phone with teams all season trying to find a great player for cheap. According to recent rumors, two players may be on the trade block that make a lot of sense.

Before we go into this, know that Odell Beckham and Antonio Brown are on the trade block, but until chatter starts really picking up there is no reason to even think about those names on the trade block until March.

However, the two players in the news now are defensive players. Specifically they are defensive tackles with a history of getting to the quarterback.

Leonard Williams DT, New York Jets

I couldn’t even believe this when I first saw it, but apparently there is a chance that Williams is traded. According to this ESPN article from Rich Cimini:

"” I think one of the storylines that will emerge around the scouting combine in February is the future of defensive end Leonard Williams, whose salary balloons in 2019 to $14.2 million (the amount of his fifth-year option). From what I hear, the organization will consider the possibility of shopping him to see if he could bring a second-round pick or better.”"

That makes sense from both sides, but man it is rare that a defense talent like Williams is on the market. So the question you have to ask is, which would you rather have:

Option A: The 51st pick in the 2019 NFL Draft and $6 million in cap space

Option B: Leonard Williams

To me, Option B is the clear choice. Give me a defensive line with Harold Landry, Jurrell Casey, Leonard Williams and a 1st round EDGE, and let those dogs hunt.

Gerald McCoy

While Williams is apparently being shopped, Gerald McCoy is at risk of getting outright cut. Look at this quote from the Tampa Bay Times:

"“There’s no question McCoy realized this could be the end of his career with the Bucs, the only NFL franchise he’s known. The $13 million he is due next season isn’t guaranteed, though the team has until March to decide his future.”"

At times throughout his career, McCoy has been a star even making it as an All-Pro in 2013. Still, it is hard to justify paying a 30 year old DT that much money on a team with very little chance to develop as long as Jameis Winston is there.

Still, having McCoy on the DL would give this team a great interior pass rush which is the most effective way to get to a QB if you can actually do it.

With the Colts OL standing in the way of a AFC South crown, this is the kind of move you can make for a late round swap that makes your team instantly better.
