Can the Tennessee Titans defensive line finally have a good day?

Against an aging quarterback and an offense that will revolve mostly around a franchise running back, the Tennessee Titans defensive line needs to have a big day.

When Jurrell Casey is hot, he is one of the best defensive tackles in the NFL. However, he is the only defensive lineman on the roster making any impact at all.

While that shouldn’t be any surprise, I am legitimately disappointed in this group. Before his injury, Daquan Jones was finally becoming an above average NFL linemen while Austin Johnson had some upside.

Then the addition of Bennie Logan only made me more confident that the Titans had done enough in free agency to support Jurrell Casey.

However, over the entire season those three have only combined for 4 TFLs and 1 sack, despite playing over 950 snaps.

That is just terrible production. Now, you could argue that defensive linemen are not always responsible for getting upfield and making plays in the backfield. But when you get beaten in the run game and in the passing game, you know there is a problem.

Today, the Titans will be charged with stopping one of the league’s most explosive running backs in Saquon Barkely. If there are going to have a chance the Titans defensive line should beat or at least challenge the New York Giants mediocre line.

If they don’t show up today, this has to be looked at as one of the weakest units on this team, if not at the bottom.

With a decent chunk of free agent money next year and some interesting names, this is a chance for someone to earn a job in 2019. If they can’t do anything today, then I don’t know what to say other than it is time to make some serious changes.

With guys like Brian Orakpo and Derrick Morgan on their way out after this season, the Titans need more playmakers. If the veterans on the defensive line can’t do it then the Titans will have to look to three rookies (Harold Landry, Rashaan Evans and Sharif Finch) and a second year player (Jayon Brown) to make that happen.
