Tennessee Titans WR Corey Davis can take the next step vs Jacksonville Jaguars
By Will Lomas
Tennessee Titans WR Corey Davis can really change opinions tomorrow.
I am admittedly biased towards Tennessee Titans second year wide receiver Corey Davis.
A year before he declared I remember watching him vs Kevin Byard’s MTSU team and thinking how great it would be for the Titans to have a guy like that.
Then when the 2017 NFL Draft came around I was worried that the Titans were going to spend a top-5 pick on a safety or tight end and let Corey Davis slip to someone else. Luckily for me and this team Jon Robinson made the right call.
Fast forward trough his rookie campaign and despite a strong finish to the season, fans weren’t happy because he had gotten injured. Remember, Davis played in over 50 games in college and never had any sort of injury history in college so it isn’t like this was something anyone could have predicted.

So when I pounded the table this offseason for Davis as the WR1 of this offense, people were understandably hesitant to jump on board.
After 12 weeks of the season I think we have all seen why this front office and many others were high on Davis. The second year man from Western Michigan has done a little bit of everything.
Against the Philadelphia Eagles and the New York Jets he made game winning touchdown catches as time wound down, and he was the focal point of the offense in the Titans biggest win of the year vs the New England Patriots.
When he has been targeted 7 or more times the Titans are 5-2 with those two loses being:
-The Miami Dolphins game that went on for 18 hours and where Marcus Mariota was injured.
-Against the Los Angeles Chargers in London where they easily could have won if they had converted the 2-point conversion.

He is turning into a star before our very eyes. However, if he can have a big game against the Jaguars then it would elevate him even further.
Jalen Ramsey will most likely shadow Davis for much of the game, allowing A.J. Bouye to focus on Taywan Taylor and Tajae Sharpe. Despite some struggles, Ramsey has still been a really good cornerback this year.
If Davis can finish the season with great performances against Stephon Gilmore, Jalen Ramsey, Byron Jones, and Xavien Howard then you would have a really hard time arguing that many WRs in the NFL did more against tougher opponents than he did.
One game doesn’t make you as a player, but a consistent stretch of dominance does indicate that you are one of the better players in the NFL. Davis needs just 51 yards to have 400 yards over his last six games despite drawing the toughest coverage on the field. Combine that with an offensive line that prevents much from going in the passing game and you have an impressive statline.
A great performance against a division rival at home would be a huge feather in his cap. In a season where there are a lot of reasons to be disappointed, Davis has a chance to offer this franchise something it hasn’t had in a long time: hope that they have a truly impressive skill player that isn’t a tight end.
