What should Tennessee Titans fans be looking at in terms of college football.

Let me preface this by saying, if you are a Tennessee Titans fan who is either not interested in college football or not interested in the draft then go ahead and click back and get away from this story.

I personally love the NFL Draft and college football, so around this time of year I really start digging into mock drafts to see which players are rising and falling so I can watch them live during the season and see if I buy into the hype.

And while you can’t even predict a team’s pick accurately (especially the Titans) a week before the draft, there are some people who seemingly find nice fits. I remember that Rashaan Evans was being mocked to the Titans before the CFB season was even over which is interesting.

So, there is a new website that I like: The Draft Network. I am a fan of most of, if not all of the writers and I think they make some innovative boards that aren’t just the “group think” that you get from most bigger names until about a month before the drafts when they start moving players because of what they hear rather than what they think.

Right now I think fans all kind of agree that the big needs are DL, WR, LB, and maybe RB or IOL.

I checked in on the most recent drafts by Kyle Crabbs and Joe Marino and this is what they said for the Titans picks.

Kyle Crabbs: Montez Sweat EDGE, Miss. State

"Titans fans are starting to see what Harold Landry is all about, which is fun. The rest of the NFL is starting to see how dumb they are for passing on him, too…that’s also fun. Now imagine a potent pass rusher, one with power, on the other side of Landry in Nashville. That’s what you can have with Sweat as the pick. A talented secondary and talented pass rushers is a good combination in any city."

I don’t love Sweat, but he is definitely a bigger and stronger EDGE that can win with power. That gives you some nice options if you can find out what an opposing OT really struggles with.

With Rashan Gary on the board I might have gone there because I think the Titans could use another versatile big body that can disrupt on the inside and can line up in different spots but it is hard to complain with a player that has 20 sacks in his last 19 games.

Joe Marino: Dexter Lawrence DL, Clemson

"There’s a lot to like about Tennessee’s defense but not its ability to stop the run. The Titans can be had up front so adding a 340 pound monster in Lawrence would go a long way in fixing that. Lawrence moves fairly well for his size with the upside to develop into a pass rushing threat."

This is one pick I don’t like very much.

The analysis is dead on, the Titans need someone to help vs the run and Lawrence is a big body that Tennessee doesn’t have. My issue is that I just don’t know if I like Lawrence as a first round player.

I am a guy that believes in production and it doesn’t matter if you are lined up next to great talent, you still need to produce.

Someone I am becoming slowly more interested who was still on the board was Jerry Tillery from Notre Dame. He is 6’6, 305 and is on pace for a double digit sack season.

I believe that there are three real stats on defense: points allowed, turnovers and sacks. If you can get a play maker like Tillery late in the first you should do it.

He could come in immediately and he, Jurrell Casey, Harold Landry and either another rookie or Brian Orakpo if he comes back would make an excellent front seven that suddenly is not only talented, but really young and cheap.
