With the deadline for roster cuts looming, the Tennessee Titans finalized their roster on Saturday afternoon. There are some surprises.

On Saturday afternoon, the Tennessee Titans made official their final 53-man roster. Information about several cuts had begun trickling in on Friday, with most information coming by way of Titans Insider Terry McCormick. On Saturday, all of the speculation was put to rest and the Titans’ roster for Week 1 (for now) was set.

Here is how the roster is currently set.

QB: Marcus Mariota, Blaine Gabbert
RB: Derrick Henry, Dion Lewis, David Fluellen
WR: Rishard Matthews, Corey Davis, Taywan Taylor, Tajae Sharpe, Darius Jennings, Cameron Batson
TE: Delanie Walker, Jonnu Smith, Luke Stocker, Anthony Firkser
OL: Taylor Lewan, Jack Conklin, Quinton Spain, Josh Kline, Dennis Kelly, Corey Levin, Ben Jones, Kevin Pamphile, Aaron Stinnie
DL: Jurrell Casey, Austin Johnson, DaQuan Jones, Bennie Logan, Matt Dickerson
OLB: Brian Orakpo, Derrick Morgan, Harold Landry, Aaron Wallace, Sharif Finch, Kamalei Correa

More from Titan Sized

ILB: Wesley Woodyard, Jayon Brown, Rashaan Evans, Will Compton, Daren Bates
CB: Malcolm Butler, Logan Ryan, Adoree’ Jackson, LeShaun Sims, Kenneth Durden
S: Kevin Byard, Kenny Vaccaro, Dane Cruikshank, Kendrick Lewis, Brynden Trawick
ST: Ryan Succop, Brett Kern, Beau Brinkley

Surprises

Aaron Stinnie: The decision to keep nine offensive linemen is one thing, but Stinnie being one of the nine is an absolute shocker. Stinnie did not impress in preseason and was particularly bad against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Matt Dickerson: Aside from one sack in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers game, Dickerson didn’t make much of an impact, while fellow DL Julius Warmsley — who got cut — consistently made plays in opponents’ backfields. Dickerson also had one drive where he committed two penalties in the first game of preseason.

Cameron Batson: Batson is quick and was the Titans’ best receiver in the final preseason game, but he doesn’t have the upside of Deontay Burnett or the experience of Nick Williams (who is battling a hamstring injury). That said, Batson has a high chance of starting the season as the Titans’ primary kick returner, due to the lack of options for the position currently on the roster.

Anthony Firkser: Firkser had an outstanding preseason and rightfully earned a spot on the roster, but it was still surprising to see the Titans keep four tight ends. Firkser likely won’t be active on game days, but the Titans probably felt a team would snatch him off waivers if they released him and tried to stash him on the practice squad.

Areas That Could Use An Upgrade

Wide Receiver: GM Jon Robinson has given a vote of confidence to his young receivers all offseason, but the position is still a bit of a concern. Davis, Taylor and Sharpe are all inconsistent. Jennings had a good camp and caught a touchdown in the first preseason game, but he hasn’t shown up in any of the other games. Batson is more of a special teams guy than receiver. We’ll see if Robinson looks for other options this week.

Defensive Line: Keeping just five defensive linemen is a bit risky, especially considering the fifth guy is very raw and likely won’t contribute much in year one. Thankfully, there is plenty of defensive line talent that consistently falls through waivers during this time of year.

Offensive Line: Just because the Titans are keeping nine offensive linemen doesn’t mean they have “depth” at the position. Along with Stinnie, Pamphile had a horrid preseason and neither inspires confidence if they had to fill in due to injuries. Robinson will be scouring the waiver wire for his next Josh Kline, most likely.
