What to watch tonight as the Tennessee Titans take on the Minnesota Vikings.

In 12 hours the preseason will be over for the Tennessee Titans and the other 31 teams in the NFL.

After weeks of training camps, joint practices, trades, cuts, and games the roster will finally take shape…just before it all gets torn down again by teams making waiver claims.

The roster is basically set right now. That doesn’t mean that Tennessee is in love with their projection, just like it means that there are still conversations going on over certain players.

If you listened to the podcast this week, you will know that I think there is one big debate going on right now. At wide receiver the Tennessee Titans are likely only going to keep 6, even though I think they should keep 7.

That means that it will probably shake out like this with the top 5:

-Corey Davis

-Rishard Matthews

-Taywan Taylor

-Tajae Sharpe

-Nick Williams (he just does too much on special teams and as a slot receiver to cut him)

The big battle is for that 6th spot between Darius Jennings and Deontay Burnett.

The conversation on them will probably be practice vs game film. By all accounts Jennings has been the better player in practice, including making a lot of catches that could be classified as “play of the day”.

On the other hand, when games roll around it is Burnett not Jennings who is making an impact. Everything from routine catches to toe taps on the sideline, Burnett is just insanely reliable.

So there is the rub. To you take a chance on a guy who might be able to make more eye popping catches and who has done well in practice?

Or should you take the more reliable player on film who constantly gets open and who makes the big catches.

If someone goes down those are your two options and for me, I would take the guy who gets in position and has reliable hands. I don’t think they will need a player to be a gamebreaker, the other receivers and tight ends will have to step up and fill that role.

They need someone who will help move the chains and keep the offense moving because drops can kill a drive.

That is my two-cents and I think tape from tonight could decide that battle for the Tennessee Titans. If either one has a big game and really takes over then it will be hard to make a cut and expect them to clear waivers.

Tonight is the last chance for a lot of these players and hopefully it will be fun to watch and full of guys playing their hearts out to try to earn a spot. Keep an eye out as the game progresses to see which one of these guys is getting more snaps and who is having the better night.
