Tennessee Titans vs Bucs, one thing I expect to happen: Defense

What to expect from the Tennessee Titans defense tonight.

After playing their first game on the road the Tennessee Titans get to play their first game of the (pre)season at home.

The Titans had a weird week of practice this week playing in the bubble on Monday, taking Tuesday off, practicing against the Bucs Wednesday and Thursday, another day off Friday and now it is game time.

That choppy week was filled with highs and lows from the Titans, but I think after a tough game against Green Bay this week they will bounce back. In fact, I think today will be the day that one of the Titans trio of starting cornerbacks logs an interception.

Right now the defense looks like they have the number of the Bucs running game, which makes a lot of sense. There really isn’t a running back on Tampa Bay’s roster you could stand on the table and stay should be a starter in this league.

On top of that, there really isn’t an offensive lineman on the roster that would see playing time in Tennessee and it would tough to argue that they would make the top-7.

So I think the Bucs offense will be backed into a corner a few times tonight and a predictable offense is usually a bad offense.

If the Titans can get the Bucs behind the sticks, then they will have to go to the air. I think if Tennessee will use bracket coverage on Mike Evans then the matchups favor the Titans.

Malcolm Butler has been a standout of Titans training camp, Logan Ryan has been praised as one of the smartest players on this defense and Adoree Jackson has drawn rave reviews.

If Butler/Byard can hold of Evans, Logan Ryan can go in the slot and Adoree Jackson can stick with Desean Jackson then there will be opportunities to put pressure on the quarterback.

With Ryan Fitzpatrick and Jameis Winston behind center there will be more than a few poorly thrown passes if the Titans can get pressure. You would have to think that in some of those predictable situations, Tennessee can get their hands on some passes.

The big question for the Titans is can this group of DBs be the opportunists that they should be on paper? Can these guys turn one-on-one situations into chances for turnovers and then capitalize on those chances?

You have to hope so and tonight would be a great chance to prove that.
