Tennessee Titans offense seems to have found a big play threat.

The Tennessee Titans finally put the pads on and got to a closer version of real football.

Meanwhile, we all just witnessed the last full week without football until February so you could say things are getting pretty serious. So, let’s look at which Titans stood out today.

Quarterbacks:

-I’ll start this out by saying I really wanted to hear more about Luke Falk connecting with guys like Deontay Burnett and Jordan Veasy. While the other two are doing their part, it has been radio silence from the rookie so far.

-Marcus Mariota is great. While there have been some interceptions today, the general consensus is that very little of that should be put on him. Genearlly the DBs have just been making great plays.

Where you can see him shine though is his great decision making in nearly every drill and his beautiful deep passes (specifically to Taywan Taylor and Corey Davis who have been making a lot of plays the last few days).

Top that all off with his dynamic ability on the ground and the Titans should have no doubt that they have their QB of the future. With an offense that finally takes advantages of all his strengths it will be fun to see where he ends up at the end of this year.

Running backs:

-It never fails, I make a comment on snap counts and the next day something changes. It seemed to be Dion Lewis taking some extra snaps and being used in interesting ways today. If you aren’t checking out Travis May I encourage you to do this, because is keeping great tabs of the snap count.

Lewis led all RBs in snaps and even lined up out wide. I wonder if the Titans see him as a mix of Tavon Austin and the pass catching version of Todd Gurley? It will be interesting to see how he is used going forward.

-Akrum Wadley had the best play of the day by anyone not named Henry or Lewis, after he put a move on defenders in the open field he looked like he could have some juice that depth RBs usually don’t have.

Wide Receivers:

-Another day, another practice where Corey Davis has to go against the top CBs and prove that he wants to be the WR1 on this team. With Rishard Matthews still out with an unknown injury, a lot is being asked of Davis.

Credit the 1st round pick, he is stepping up to the plate. Despite some “aggressive” pass coverage, he is making plays day in and day out. The biggest play of the day from him was probably the first play of team where he went deep and caught a beautiful pass between the cornerback and the safety for a huge gain. The cornerback and safety just happened to be Malcolm Butler and Kevin Byard:

-Taywan Taylor and Tajae Sharpe are also making plays and it should be noted that this staff has seen no reason to push anyone other than Taylor and Davis as the starters with Rishard Matthews out for the time being.

-One name that keeps coming up is Darius Jennings. Not because he is making great catches or bad plays, but he is seemingly on the field as often as Sharpe is and it could mean that he is the dark horse candidate to make the team at WR.

Tight Ends:

-Delanie Walker took the day off, he had tweaked his ankle earlier in the week and after signing that big extension everyone probably decided that the 34 year old didn’t need the 20 or so reps he would get in team if he was out there.

Like other injuries, I am very PRO resting players who have already proven themselves in the league. There is no reason to risk injuries lingering or getting worse just because you want a few extra practice reps.

-Jonnu Smith had a good day, but it seems like the buzz is dying down on him a little bit. I think he could still be a factor in the offense, but anyone expecting him to put up even half of what Delanie puts up is mistaken.

Offensive line:

-Honestly with today being the first day in pads I really expected to see some more noise on how this unit did. There really wasn’t any news on how any of them preformed individually so I guess we will have to wait on that.

-The one newsworthy thing from this group is probably that Kevin Pamphile started team as the left guard over Quinton Spain. I think Spain is a good player and probably would start for more than a handful of teams in the NFL, but when all those linemen were signed this offseason everyone knew LG was the open position.

With Kline getting the deal this offseason and with Ben Jones winning an award for his effort with the team, you would imagine that 4 of the 5 OL spots are set in stone if everyone is healthy. Competition breeds excellence though and hopefully the Titans end up with a better product in 2018 no matter who the starter is.
