The Tennessee Titans offense rebounds on day 2 of training camp.

If you had concerns that the Tennessee Titans defense was going to dominate the offense for the entire preseason, you were proven wrong today.

While the defense stood tall on plenty of occasions, there was a lot more to be excited about on the offensive side of the ball including a rising star’s flashes of brilliance.

Quarterbacks:

-Despite an interception in redzone period, there were some great reviews on Marcus and what he did today through the air and on the ground. I’ll talk about the passes later, but Paul Kuharsky (of PaulKuharsky.com) summed up why Mariota’s legs will be more of a threat this year with this:

Couple of notes. Great to see him bootlegging towards his throwing arm, that is always smart. Love the hard cut inside to get past Landry. Also love that he seems to be making quick decisions in this offense even past the first and second reads.

Running backs:

-Derrick Henry showed off in pass protection as he forklifted Mike Vrabel into the air. After that he showed the ability to reach down and pluck a pass that was inches from the ground and bring it in. If he is going to be a true three down back, he is off to a great start.

I like Henry in this offense and if he can become a back that doesn’t have any clear limitations, it is just going to make it even more difficult for defenses to defend.

-Not a lot of news out of Dion Lewis, but he continues to be the clear RB2 in this offense, slightly below Henry and well above Fluellen. Travis May had the snap count at 20-18 in favor of Henry with Flu as a distant third.

-May also said that Flu fumbled a ball and was immediately pulled and replaced with Akrum Wadley. Right now I think it is a real battle for the RB3 role and I think all four make the final 53 thanks to Flu’s ability to play on special teams.

Wide Receivers:

-Corey Davis again stole the show. The best way to show this is to show the instant reaction to his performance through tweets and videos:

He is doing a great job consistently winning by being physical in his route, sinking his hips and changing directions much quicker than a big guy should be able to. He looks great and is slowly getting more consistent.

It should be noted that he also had two TD catches as well. One beating Adoree Jackson and the other one he went up high over Malcolm Butler and made a great play on the ball in the air.

-Taywan Taylor has also been very good, and Marcus Mariota mentioned him by name in his post practice conference. Taylor leads all WRs in snaps over the last few days and he beat Adoree Jackson and Butler for TDs.

-Deontay Burnett seems to be the straw poll leader for “guy making the most of his UDFA opportunity” of the three big names (Finch, Burnett and Wadley). He has made plays both days and seems like he could stand out among the “next” group of WRs behind the big 3.

Tight ends:

-Delanie Walker signed and extension and will be with the Titans until 2020! Insane considering that he will be 36 that season, but if he is going to drop off he hasn’t shown any sign of it yet.

For years great QB/TE tandems have been central in some of the best offenses in football.

Brady/Gronk, Brees/Graham, Rivers/Gates, Romo/Witten, etc. It seems like that is what the Titans will have for at least another three years.

Offensive line:

-The spirit of Nashville has been signed to the richest contract for an offensive lineman ever. Taylor Lewan will be blocking for Marcus Mariota for at least another 5 years and I think all parties are thrilled.

Lewan said that he and Nashville were the perfect marriage of player and a city. He loves how the city embraced him and I think he is one of the most well loved players in the fan base. I can’t say enough about how excited I am to have him protecting Mariota for another half decade and the city should be excited to see him.

Look forward to even more antics from Lewan going forward, especially at Nashville Predators games where he has become a fixture during playoff time.
