Tennessee Titan most likely to win an award
By Will Lomas
Who in the Tennessee Titans best candidate for an award this year?
NFL Mocks recently put out an article detailing each team’s best hope for an award this season. For the Tennessee Titans, that was Defensive Coordinator Dean Pees.
Here is what Erik Lambert had to say:
“People don’t quite grasp how big a coup Mike Vrabel pulled when he lured Dean Pees out of retirement this off-season. The veteran defensive coordinator is one of the best in the business as he proved for years in Baltimore. In his career his defenses have ranked top 10 in points allowed seven times. Now he inherits a young and hungry Titans roster that just got a nice infusion of talent this offseason including Malcolm Butler, Rashaan Evans and Harold Landry. The defense was the weak point for Tennessee last season. People will be shocked when Pees turns it into their strength.”

That is true, while a lot of focus is being put on the improvements the offense should see thanks to Matt LaFleur people are sleeping on the upgrade at DC.
Make no mistake, for large stretches over the last two years when it mattered most, Dick LeBeau came up short.
The Titans looked passive for too long and you can even look as recently as the playoff loss to the New England Patriots to see how conservative play calling hurt the team.

So when you take a defense whose three weakest positions were all upgraded this offseason you have to be optimistic.
Then to hire a DC who had more shutouts last year than the Titans have had in the last decade, and why wouldn’t you think he has the chance to win Assistant Coach of the Year?
I’m interested to see how the aggressive defensive mindsets of Mike Vrabel and Dean Pees mesh and how active the Titans defense will be this year. If they can make this defense a top-10 unit, with youth at CB, EDGE and LB then I think they will be able to sustain it for years to come.
