Tennessee Titans sign NT Bennie Logan.
The Tennessee Titans needs are down to two after they signed NT Bennie Logan.
There was a lot of concern when the Titans dropped Sly Williams and missed on Ndamukong Suh, that defensive line was going to be a big position of need. However, quietly Tennessee has a solid defensive line.
Here is the way it looks right now:
Starters (3-4):
DE: Daquon Jones
NT: Bennie Logan
DE: Jurrell Casey

Backups (3-4):
DE: Austin Johnson
NT: Antwaun Woods
DE: David King
Starters (4-3)
EDGE: Brian Orakpo
1-tech: Bennie Logan
3-tech: Jurrell Casey
EDGE: Derrick Morgan
There is no one that looks out of place on those lines and in the 3-4 look the Titans are two-deep across the board.
Before we get into long term implications, here are some of the things people have noted about Logan:
The #Titans agreed to terms on a contract with veteran DL Bennie Logan, adding some front 7 depth.

Over his 5 seasons in NFL, Bennie Logan (@da_king_son18) ranks 9th among DL in “stuffs” (a tackle for loss on a rushing attempt) with 31, according to STATS, Inc. Others on the list: Watt (1st, 46), Suh (38.5), Clowney (32.5) & @Jurrellc (24)

Scout tells me a sometimes banged-up Logan ranks as fourth best #Titans DL after Casey, Jones and Johnson. https://t.co/wjLJ2T8FnS

That is some great stuff, especially the stuff from Jim Wyatt showing how dominant Logan has been as a run defender. To that point, here are a couple of GIFs showing how I think the Titans will use him and why Vrabel liked him.
This is what the #Titans will want from Bennie Logan (#96) dominate the center, open an angle for the backside DL/LB to make a play. https://t.co/Bef60sKkFo

Same play from a different angle. Power and enough mobility to stay in front of the center while pushing him back. Not a playmaker, but someone who will let playmakers shine great for #Titans like Casey/Jones https://t.co/cJwpqINM05

So there you go, that is what the Titans can expect to get from Logan. A dominant run-stuffing NT that won’t give you much vs the pass, but who will really help the Titans on the ground.

Looking forward, this solidified the depth and starting defensive line all at once. The Titans now get their veteran starting nose tackle while Woods develops behind him. It also allows Johnson to focus on playing DE instead of playing inside.
That means that the Titans have starters at every position except for linebacker beside Wesley Woodyard. On top of that, Tennessee needs to add another EDGE to add youth and depth for the future.
Those two positions now stick out like a sore thumb and I expect the Titans to add an EDGE in free agency before the draft. It will be really interesting to see if the Titans even draft a DL at this point.
