James Daniels is getting a lot of attention from the Tennessee Titans at his Pro Day.

With just a month before the Tennessee Titans are on the clock in the 2018 NFL Draft, it is time to start reading the tea leaves.

What I mean by that is scouring the internet and twitter to figure out which prospects the Titans are paying close attention to or who fits based on Jon Robinson’s draft history.

As far as keeping an eye on coaches at Pro Days, there is no better resource than Draft Analyst, run by Tony Pauline.

Today they covered the Iowa Pro Day and this note jumped out to me:

“Center James Daniels, who projects as a second day choice, has a lingering hamstring issue and only participated in position drills.  Daniels did not run the forty at the combine and I’m told he will not run the forty before the draft.

He’s receiving a lot of interest from the Tampa Bay Bucs, Philadelphia Eagles and Tennessee Titans.”

I told everyone in a recent article that the best time to draft IOL was in the 2nd round, so seeing the interest in James Daniels makes sense to me in a way.

On one hand, the Titans now have their target in a trade back or in a trade up scenario, if Daniels goes in the top-45/50 range.

On the other hand, have the Titans already put enough in the OL? I mean, look at this projected chart:

LT: Taylor Lewan (Pro Bowl), backup: Dennis Kelly

LG: Quinton Spain, backup: Kevin Pamphile

C: Ben Jones, backup: Corey Levin

RG: Josh Kline, backup: Corey Levin

RT: Jack Conklin (All Pro), backup: Kevin Pamphile

The Titans are two deep at every position on the OL with five starters who range from All-Pro to above average and three players who are versatile enough to play multiple positions.

Unless they can pull off a trade for a linebacker or EDGE, it is hard to see them moving around without hurting their chances to find an impact player at those positions while also getting Daniels.

Daniels is a great high floor, high ceiling guy, but at the end of the day are the Titans in the position to take a player who is BPA at a position that won’t impact the team immediately and would only offer moderate improvement at best? Especially with two big needs still left unaddressed? I don’t know, but I will say that it will be interesting to see what happens with this information.
