What do the Tennessee Titans do now?

So the Tennessee Titans just missed out on Ndamukong Suh as they tried to complete their trio of big free agent acquisitions.

Suh is a very good player and would have turned this defensive line from very good to great. However, now we have to look past that miss and towards the future.

One thing to note is this tweet from last week:

That was the second time Schultz had said that teams had “contingency plans” if they missed out on Suh.

So now we are in a situation where the Rams have filled their “need” at DT, so now it is up to the New Orleans Saints and Tennessee Titans to fill a need there.

The Saints have a real need there where as the Titans created a need by going all in on Suh. Karl Klug and Sly Williams are now gone, and while those moves make sense even after the Titans didn’t land Suh that do leave a slight hole.

Sure, you would imagine that the DL will consist of a long-time star in Jurrell Casey and two up and coming Penn State defenders in Austin Johnson and Daquan Jones.

Behind them you have solid depth on the outside in David King, and on the inside in Antwaun Woods. So, you aren’t dying to fill a need for no reason. However, the Titans will probably look around to see if there are any defensive linemen that would make an impact.

One comes to mind quickly:

If you followed me at all last year you know he and Calais Campbell were my top DL in that free agency class and I still think that Hankins has a ton of talent and is only 26.

I think he could be a really good NT in this scheme and it would keep the Titans from wasting a pick on a gap-plugging NT in a draft that really doesn’t have a lot of Day 1/2 defensive line talent outside of Maurice Hurst.

If this is the contingency plan for Suh I am for it, if not then I don’t see any clear path to replacing what they hoped Suh would provide.
