The Tennessee Titans may have just chosen a solid, safe option in free agency.

The deal may not thrill anyone, but the Tennessee Titans just re-signed DaQuan Jones and it was a great move.

The Titans locked up Jones on a multi-year contract and really solidified their defensive line with that move. Jones was an anchor last year and PFF said it was his best year.

Not only was last year his best year, but he was progressively better in each year. Jon Robinson wasn’t going to just keep people around to keep them around, but with this move the Titans keep around an ascending talent who is just 26 years old.

I am afraid that with that move, they may have taken themselves out of the Ndamukong Suh race.

The reason I say that isn’t the money Jones is costing (or more specifically the fact that Suh seems to have hinted that he is almost exclusively looking at money) it is the depth.

Right now, the Titans have 7 guys listed as a player that would play DT in a 4-3 scheme. Unless they are going to part ways with a guy like Sly Williams or Karl Klug, I can’t see them taking 8 DTs into next season.

Now, you always make room for talent on the roster. If the Titans really think Suh is dominant and a blue-chip player, they could make a big offer for him, but with the front office re-upping David King and Jones, it seems like the may be done looking at the defensive line.
