Tennessee Titans make their first hire, and it is a great one.

The Tennessee Titans just made their first hire of the Mike Vrabel era in Kerry Coombs.

Kerry Coombs, is a name you don’t know well but I promise you have admired his work. Since 2012, Coombs has been a CBs coach for the Buckeyes and he has been their special teams coordinator since 2013.

More recently he was promoted to assistant DC with Ohio State.

As a position coach though, Coombs is directly responsible for coaching and developing some star players in the NFL, including:

-Marshon Lattimore

-Gareon Conley

-Bradley Roby

-Doran Grant

-Eli Apple

-Nate Ebner

And he is about to put Denzel Ward in the NFL too. That will be 5, 1st round picks at CB in 5 years. That is an amazing stat.

I don’t know what exactly Coombs will be doing with the staff, but with his resume you could argue that getting him on the staff in any role would be great.

Would he be a slam dunk DC? I don’t know, probably not in the vein of what James Bettcher would have been. Still, any way you can get a top end developer of talent on your team you need to.

If he is special teams coordinator or DBs coach fans need to be ecstatic. This is a guy who should be able to get the most out of stars like Kevin Byard, Logan Ryan and Adoree Jackson.

On top of that, you would like to think that he might be able to push Tye Smith, Leshaun Sims or another rookie/young CB to the next level.

It is fun to think about what these talented DBs could look like with a coach like Coombs over them. Now we just hold our breath to make sure that this hire actually is confirmed by the team and not just another rumor.
