Tennessee Titans should trade Kevin Dodd for Kenny Vaccaro
By Will Lomas
The time for a Kevin Dodd trade could be rapidly approaching.
It has been two weeks of games now and we have yet to see Kevin Dodd be active for the Tennessee Titans on game day.
While that is a big concern, it does make sense given how their roster is constructed. The Titans have a good group of defensive ends and outside linebackers, and Kevin Dodd just didn’t have the preseason that warranted keeping him active.
With guys like Josh Carraway, Aaron Wallace and Erik Walden on the roster there just really isn’t a place for Dodd right now.

However, where the Tennessee Titans are almost dangerously thin is at wide receiver.
Right now they have 5 WRs on the roster: Corey Davis, Rishard Matthews, Taywan Taylor, Eric Decker, and Eric Weems.
Weems is primarily a special teams player which means they really on have four guys that can carry the load on offense if they had to play 30-40 snaps per game.
There is some relief down the road though in the form of Harry Douglas. When Douglas is active he should be a solid depth player to take some pressure off of the guys in front of him.
However to bring him back the Titans would have to make a roster spot available. The most likely way for them to do that would be to cut someone, but I don’t think they want to do that.
Tennessee is happy with how their roster is constructed now for the most part and I think that even extends to the inactive guys.

They could be shopping Kevin Dodd already to try to find a fit with him and another team and a price they can both agree on. Right now someone that I could see as a fit is the New Orleans Saints.
Right now the Saints have Alex Okafor who has 5.5 career stats over his last 30 NFL games. That is something that I bet they would like to change.
They are tied for the 4th worst total sacks in the NFL so far, despite opposing QBs already combining for 77 pass attempts against them.
So maybe the Saints would be willing to get rid of Kenny Vaccaro for Dodd given the rumors that they are trying to move the safety for whatever reason.
This works for both teams because the Saints get a defensive end who fits their scheme and the Titans could get a safety to fill out their poor depth there.
You could end up with Kevin Byard, Kenny Vaccaro, Johnathan Cyprien, DaNorris Searcy as your game day safeties.

Well, now you are back in the roster hole. However, you are in a different position because you have upgraded at safety.
So now you use the open slot created from the trade to bolster your depth at WR with the return of Harry Douglas. Then, you add Kenny Vaccaro and likely cut Tye Smith and put him on practice squad or injured reserve with his hand injury.
The Titans get better at two positions by moving a player that doesn’t fit their scheme. It is a win-win and everyone gets something out of the deal. If the Saints really are unhappy with Vaccaro this is a great move.
