A day after cutting the roster down to 53, the Tennessee Titans didn’t claim anyone off waivers, but added to their practice squad.

Yesterday, with the NFL rules mandating that teams trim down their roster to 53 players on one day, the Tennessee Titans did so and shaped their roster. There were some interesting decisions, such as keeping just five wide receivers and keeping cornerback Tye Smith, who many didn’t even consider when projecting the final roster.

The final state of the roster after yesterday’s cuts left fans wondering, and hoping, that the Titans would claim a player or two off waivers. Considering the Titans got starting right guard Josh Kline off waivers last season, many expected general manager Jon Robinson to be active today.

Instead, the Titans are heading into game week number 1 with the same roster that was set yesterday. Of course, it’s important to note that Kline was claimed last season a few days after the initial waivers day, but it seems that the front office and coaching staff is almost fully confident with their current roster.

More from Titan Sized

Although no changes were made to the active roster, many Titans fans had their eyes on some players that were cut from the team yesterday. One of them, Tre McBride, had a stellar preseason on both offense and special teams, but he was deemed surplus to requirements at wide receiver; even though Tajae Sharpe is on IR and Eric Weems was cut. McBride was claimed today on waivers by the Chicago Bears, which reunites him with former Titan Kendall Wright. Pour one out for the #TreMcBrideFanClub, which I was president of at one point.

Another that was a bit of a surprise cut was nose tackle Antwaun Woods, who was arguably the Titans’ best defensive lineman outside of Jurrell Casey during the preseason. The Titans opted for free agent signing Sylvester Williams instead, and their gamble payed off, as Woods cleared waivers and was signed to the practice squad.

Here are the players who cleared waivers and have, so far, been added to the Titans’ practice squad.

Antwaun Woods, NT
Tyler Ferguson, QB
Denzel Johnson, S
Khalfani Muhammad, RB
Zach Pascal, WR (from Washington Redskins)
Tyler Marz, OL
