Jayon Brown was one of the few bright spots for the Tennessee Titans last night.
Last night was not the fun return to football that Tennessee Titans fans thought it would be.
Instead, Titans fans spent most of their nights mad at a few thing and rightfully so.
More from Titans Draft
- Tennessee Titans suspiciously quiet about major draft need
- 3 needs that are being overblown by Tennessee Titans fans
- Tennessee Titans must be careful trading down in the 2023 NFL Draft
- Tennessee Titans should only spend their premium draft picks on offense
- Tennessee Titans connections may be crucial for a draft day trade
One of the things they couldn’t be mad at was Jayon Brown. The rookie linebacker showed why he should be active on game days come this fall.
I have a lot of things I want to talk about with Brown is his instincts. Rarely do you see a rookie linebacker take the right first step every time, but last night Brown appeared to do just that. Here are a few clips where that is evident.
Jayon Brown #55 has great instincts and shows up a lot in these GIFs. Great instincts and range here #Titans https://t.co/tPkoZyocof

Man, again Jayon Brown sniffs out the delayed swing pass and buries the RB for a TFL #Titans https://t.co/rSQDnRdp4R

It isn’t only his range and instincts, it is his physicality. For someone who was supposed to come into the league as more of a coverage linebacker, he handled run fits very well.
Great LB play here. Wallace explodes and gets downhill quick, Brown sets the edge. Both meet for a TFL #Titans https://t.co/4GPgwsQTz3

Austin Johnson with the tip and Jayon Brown punishing an offensive lineman for touching a ball #Titans https://t.co/vka1eXvrHq

Jayon Brown again here, great instincts, sorts through trash and make a great tackle #Titans https://t.co/FWoHbGiA57 …

Of course, just because he is better than advertised as a run stuffer, that doesn’t mean he was disappointing as a coverage linebacker.
Easy one to love here. 3rd and 12, Jayon Brown gets depth, flys to the ball and wraps up a big TE for no YAC #Titans https://t.co/wKO7eneonC

One of my favorite plays from last night. Brown fights over the OPI and makes a great tackle #Titans https://t.co/cZqcbxivAR

So let’s look at the Jayon Brown checklist:
-Good coverage on tight ends (check)
-Rangy linebacker who can set the edge. (check)
-Impact run defender (surprisingly a check)

That is a great night. He is flashing to me like Kevin Byard did last year during the regular season.
What I mean is, he was advertised as great vs the pass, with questions vs the run. However, he looks like he is going to overachieve there and push for real playing time immediately.
The Titans may have landed a star when they took Jayon Brown from California and moved him to Tennessee.
