It is that time of year, time to start looking for potential trade candidates for the Tennessee Titans.

Whether you know it or not, Tennessee Titans GM Jon Robinson has had talks with several teams about trades.

This isn’t speculation, he has said it on several occasions that at some point everyone is talking to everyone else putting out feelers for a multitude of players.

Preseason usually sees more trades every year than the deadline and the offseason combined as teams scramble to make their rosters whole.

So, when an injury happens in the preseason to a group that is already thin you take notice.

The Denver Broncos had such an injury last night:

As it stands right now, the only option at nose tackle on the Broncos roster is Domata Peko.

Even at other DL positions, you have Jared Crick and Adam Gotsis fighting for snaps. You can even throw Zach Kerr in there who couldn’t stick with a bad Indianapolis Colts defensive line.

So when you look at the Titans roster you have to figure out if the Titans have the players to make a move. I think there is one player that clearly stands out as an option in a trade.

Alright, now that we know the Titans have a guy Denver should want is there a guy that they should want in return.

I see one I really like.

Alright, so lets go through the scenario:

    On the move: DaQuan Jones

-I don’t want to see Jones go, I think he is a very good defensive lineman on this roster. However, don’t forget that Jon Robinson used a 2nd round pick on Austin Johnson.

If the Titans think that it is his time to start then this would be the time to maximize value with DaQuan Jones who would be the fourth best starter in the Broncos front seven.

What would I trade: Jones for EDGE Shaq Barrett

-The Tennessee Titans need to add depth at pass rusher long term. The Denver Broncos don’t really seem to love Shaq Barrett and haven’t made a push for him to start or really take reps away from Shane Ray.

Instead, they went out this year and drafted DeMarcus Walker from FSU. I don’t love Walker, but they do and they could see him as more of the prototype end that they want in that scheme.

Barrett is under contract until 2018 when he will be a RFA instead of a UFA so even then you have some wiggle room if you want to keep him.

So, the Broncos add a solid front seven player that will help stop their porous run defense. The Tennessee Titans get a great pass rusher to play that stand up end role that Brian Orakpo plays.

It is a cheap contract for a young player (24) with a year left on his contract at a position with a lot of value on the open market. Barrett would come in and start as a role player and provide premium rotational help and fill a specific need.

That is exactly what the Titans did last year with Dennis Kelly and it has worked out perfectly.

Jones would be missed on this roster, but Robinson said that he was expecting all of the players he took in the 2nd round to be important starters or role players by their second year. Austin Johnson needs to make that leap and let the Titans be active in this trade market.
