What they did:

Just an outstanding job. Think about the situation they were in with the 11th pick in the draft. They had Michael Roos anchoring the left tackle position and the presumed top-two tackles (Greg Robinson and Jake Matthews) were off the board.

However, give Ruston Webster credit because he nailed it taking Taylor Lewan. Do you know how many Pro Bowl left tackles were taken between the 2014 NFL Draft and now? 1, Taylor Lewan.

This set in motion everything that the Tennessee Titans are built around. Next year they landed a star quarterback in Marcus Mariota and were faced with what to do with the top pick in 2016.

Trusting their left tackle, they decided to forgo Laremy Tunsil and traded down to get a ton of picks and an All-Pro right tackle in Jack Conklin. Turning a terrible roster into one of the best all while building around those two picks.

What they should have done:

There wasn’t much talent in the middle parts of that draft and they really couldn’t have done any better. Mack, Evans, OBJ, and Donald are the only players from that draft that I think you can really argue are better at this point than Taylor Lewan.

However, the domino effect that Lewan started after Mariota got here led to a trade that may end up turning this roster into one of the best in the NFL sooner rather than later. You can’t beat that.
