Making the Tennessee Titans champions: Tight end
By Will Lomas
Can the Tennessee Titans get better at tight end?
It is a strange question to ask given their recent history, but can the Tennessee Titans get even better at tight end?
Over the last three years, only three tight ends have stayed in the top-six at their position in receiving yards: Delanie Walker, Travis Kelce and Greg Olsen.
That is a stacked group of tight ends and it shows how rare and valuable his consistency has been for the Tennessee Titans during his time with the team. So it is clear to me that he is without a doubt the TE1 for this season and going forward.

My rule with age is, find developmental talent behind your stars. However, if they are still preforming up to their standards then don’t take any responsibility away from them.
I also think Jonnu Smith is going to be a good tight end in the NFL. His blocking isn’t top-notch, but he does enough to get the job done. So, I am not looking for his replacement either.
Heck, given what Phillip Supernaw can do for you on special teams and as a blocker I am not really even looking for someone to take his spot. What I am looking for is a 4th tight end.
This team has historically had a 4th TE that can contribute in some way. I want to look at those options.
Keep: Jace Amaro
Amaro is an interesting player and he has a ton of potential. But, it is that word potential that scares me so much.
We have seen Amaro do some really nice things as a receiver and the Oakland game comes to mind. Still, consistency and blocking are important in this offense. Those are two traits that I really don’t think he has.
Free Agency: Gary Barnidge
I file Barnidge in the Jonnu Smith category of blocking: just enough. I believe that his 1,000 yard season in 2015 was a mirage, but I think he is still very capable as a 4th/5th receiving option on the field.

While he isn’t young or an elite athlete, in the past two years he has show that he can do more than he was asked for most of his career.
No team in the NFL needs a deep group of tight ends that can block like the Tennessee Titans do. I think Barnidge would probably be a much better fit in this offense and he could be a capable blocker or receiver.
