A look at a player who was almost a Tennessee Titans draft pick, and may still have a chance at the team.
Do you ever wonder what almost happened in a war room on draft day? I think I may have some tea leaves for a player that was almost on the Tennessee Titans, but was forced off the board.
There are different reasons that players fall on draft day. Sometimes an interview just goes so poorly that coaches won’t keep a player on their big board. Other times, the player just doesn’t fit the exact need for a lot of teams or is in a crowded position group.

Keionta Davis fell because of a bulging disk in his neck.
Davis is an edge rusher from UT Chattanooga and was projected by some to be a late Day 2/Day 3 prospect according to the Ian Rapoport tweet. However, due to that injury Davis went undrafted.
One of the teams that was looking at Davis was the Tennessee Titans. Not only did they have in for a local visit, they also had strong connections to him at other points during the draft process.

This is actually more interest than they showed in 6th round draft pick Corey Levin who they just had in for a visit.
In fact, there are only 3 teams that had private workouts with Davis along with the New England Patriots and Carolina Panthers.
The question now is, does he fit the profile Jon Robinson looks for? Well we can go ahead and ignore the school because we know that Robinson already drafted a player from Chattanooga.
Let’s look at how many starts he had. The lowest number of starts in the Titans draft class, other than Khalfani Muhammad who was a rotational guy, is Jayon Brown with 21.
Davis cleared that mark with ease starting 31 games at his time in UTC.
Alright, what was his production like? Jon Robinson noted that 7th round pick Josh Carraway had nice production with 17 sacks in his last two years.
By that same measurement, Davis had 24 sacks in the last two years which certainly trumps Carraway’s number. He also measured a half sack and a forced fumble against Alabama which is notable.
As for his size/athleticism, he is 6’3, 271 lb. ran a 4.73, had a 37 inch vertical jump, and a 10’01” broad jump at his pro day. All very good numbers for that size.
Based on what Jon Robinson has done in the past, I believe that if not for his injury that forced him to sit out the combine he could have been a Day 3 pick for the Tennessee Titans.

The question for me now is, do they make an effort to sign him as a UDFA knowing that he will probably have to sit and heal for a good amount of time? The Titans certainly need help at EDGE and he fits for so many differnt reasons.
I would love for the Tennessee Titans to find a way to make this work now that the rush for UDFA has largely ended.
