Tennessee Titans: Jamal Adams at Pick No. 5 Overall
Jamal Adams needs to be the Tennessee Titans’ pick at No. 5 overall.
If Jamal Adams, the safety from LSU, is still on the board when they’re picking at No. 5, the Tennessee Titans need to call his name on draft night. One might ask, why would the Titans pick a safety at five? They just signed Johnathan Cyprien, Da’Norris Searcy is still under contract, and they drafted Kevin Byard last year. I would agree, but there is always room for a dynamic player like Adams.
According to Matt Miller of Bleacher Report, Adams is the number four player on his Big Board. Also, Matt has just released another draft notebook, stating that some scouts who attended the LSU Pro day have Jamal running the 40 yard dash in a range from 4.33 to the mid-4.4s. I think we can say that Adams is a blue chip player and a guy the Titans need.
Adams is not just a “box safety” and I think that Dick Lebeau can use him as a chess piece. Adams can play in the box, as the nickel corner, or, in a pinch, use him as an outside corner.

As stated in a recent post by Will Lomas, Titan Sized expert, the Titans won’t draft a linebacker early. The reason why I would agree is I think that Adams can fill that role by effectively covering a tight end. As Titans fans know, this is a glaring need as Avery Williamson, Wesley Woodyard, and Sean Spence, struggled all year.
This draft is filled with talent in the secondary and might be the deepest draft in the past few years. Some might say that the Titans should wait and find a quality defensive back or two in later rounds. I would say the same, but Adams is a top tier player that can’t be passed on. Adams is a guy that the Titans can build around and would love because of his versatility. If the Titans have the philosophy of taking the best player available, Jamal Adams is best player in this draft, behind only Myles Garrett.
