Titans Will Confront Their AFC South Demon vs. Colts

The Tennessee Titans square up against AFC South rival Indianapolis Colts this Sunday. The Titans have been playing great football over the last several weeks (yes I’m including the loss against the San Diego Chargers) and Andrew Luck’s perfect 8-0 record must come to an end this weekend.
Since Andrew Luck has entered the league in 2012 he has had his way with the Titans. He’s beat a Titans team led by many different combinations of head coaches and quarterbacks. Luck has defeated Mike Munchak, Ken Whisenhunt, and even Mike Mularkey’s version of the Titans. He has gotten the best of Jake Locker, Matt Hasselbeck, Charlie Whitehurst, and Marcus Mariota.

It’s hard to believe but a lot has changed with the Titans since Week 7. I hate to be cliché but I think a lot of has to do with swagger. The Titans look like they are gelling as a cohesive unit and they look like they are truly having fun during the last few weeks. The Titans offense is clicking and putting points up in bunches. Marcus Mariota has played lights out the several weeks. He has committed a couple of turnovers that have been back breakers (i.e: an INT and fumble returned for touchdowns against Chargers) but he is doing what great quarterbacks do and that is have a short term memory.
Forget the mistakes and move on.
During the first 5 games of the year the Titans averaged a paltry 17 points per game. During the last 5 games the Titans have averaged a white-hot 36 points per game.
The Titans have a chance to exorcise their demons this week. They will hop on the team bus and travel a little under 300 miles up I-65 North to Indianapolis. They must take advantage of a banged up, reeling Colts team. No matter what the story line is going into a Titans vs Colts game Andrew Luck and the Colts have always prevailed. Always.
It must stop this weekend. And it will stop this weekend.
The Titans are truly in the best position they have been in a long time to take advantage of a very weak division. The AFC South is arguably the weakest division in all of football. The Titans have a chance to take a big leap forward. The Texans aren’t impressive and our Week 17 matchup against them very well could be for the AFC South title.
All the hype and talk coming off the beat down that the Titans gave the Green Bay Packers won’t mean anything if they can’t take down their biggest foe. The Colts have extreme confidence when they play the Titans and they should. The Colts have this mentality that no matter what obstacles they have in front of them that they can get a win against the Titans. It will stop this weekend.
The Titans opened as a 3.5 point underdog. With an 0-8 recent history against the Colts, sadly, they deserve to be underdogs even after coming off a game where they beat Aaron Rodgers and Co. by 22 points. I’m taking the points. The Titans will win.
