Which ESPN trade candidate should the Titans go for?

I love trades. They are the unexpected twist that can make a GM look like an idiot, or like a genius.

More from Titans News

For example, the Cleveland Browns (sorry Browns) took a king’s ransom to move away from a guy they didn’t believe in. However, that guy went on to be Carson Wentz and is currently looking like one of the best young quarterbacks in the NFL.

On the other hand, the Tennessee Titans own Jon Robinson pulled the trigger on a swap of 4th round pick (the value equivalent of a late round pick) and ended up with DeMarco Murray. You know him right? One of the league’s best running backs?

So, with ESPN putting out their list of players they think should be made available for every team, who should the Titans be keeping an eye on as the trade deadline approaches?

  • NY Jets: Sheldon Richardson DE

I would love if the Titans could swing a trade of their later first round pick to grab something like Sheldon Richardson and a 2nd or another 3rd.

He is one of the best 3-4 DEs in the NFL and this defense is one real threat in the front seven away from being a top-5 unit. With the LBs struggling in coverage, better pass rush could help the Titans LBs on those double moves.

    Any CB

There are several options on that list at cornerback so I won’t make 12 posts. However, I would go after Joe Haden over almost anyone else on that list. If the Titans can get a reasonable asking price he has the highest upside and can play anywhere.

    Denver Broncos: Shaq Barrett EDGE

The Titans could use another EDGE rusher. Dodd has looked good in spurts, but David Bass is probably a better special teamer than as a key rusher. This position is even more important because of how often the Titans seem to take their first front five combo off the field.

    NYG: Dwayne Harris WR/KR/PR

Maybe the best fit of any of the players on this list.

Harris is a top-10 returner in the NFL, and that is probably understating it. Not only that, but he is actually a very good player on special teams as a gunner which is a HUGE need for this team.

He has some wiggle and speed too, so he could also see some time as a slot wide receiver or just an outside deep threat on a team with issues at WR.

    Veteran WRs

Guys like Alshon Jeffery and to a lesser extend Pierre Garcon would be great pieces on this team. They would give a veteran presence who is still in their prime, and not just a leader off the field.

    Alterraun Verner CB

While he isn’t the guy Jenna Laine, picked she did mention that they would be happy to get rid of his contract if someone would take it. The Titans could make a late round move and do something like swap a 5th for a 6th and Verner.

I love Verner. He was great here and when he has played he hasn’t been as bad as people think, he just doesn’t fit the vanilla zone-heavy Tampa 2 scheme.
