For those that haven’t heard, Dorial Green-Beckham has been traded from the Tennessee Titans to the Philadelphia Eagles. In return the Titans received G/T Dennis Kelly.

My first thought was: who?

My second thought in this trade was that this is sort of a watershed moment for Jon Robinson as GM of the Tennessee Titans.

While Green-Beckham has a ton of talent, Robinson understands that talent is not as important as cohesion, consistency and/or fit with the offense. What I mean by that is, we have seen precise receivers like Rishard Matthews and Tajae Sharpe quickly usurp wide receivers with all the physical talent in the world.

  • There is a reason why those two are starting above Justin Hunter and Dorial Green-Beckham. This offense is going to be run through the running backs, and on play action. That means that receivers have to be consistent in their route running, and Marcus Mariota should be able to hit them in stride even if he can’t see them.

Unfortunately, it has become very evident that when asked about Dorial Green-Beckham or Justin Hunter the first words that came out of Mike Mularkey’s mouth was “inconsistency” almost every time. That just can’t happen no matter how talented you are.

I will talk more about Dennis Kelly in another post, but the positives are that he is a massive offensive line prospect that can be exactly what they thought that Byron Bell would be this year.

One more thought on Dorial Green-Beckham. While he didn’t thrive here in Tennessee, I still believe that he will have a productive career. Now, whether he is Kenny Britt or DeAndre Hopkins, I don’t know yet and neither does anyone else. However, if he falls into the right situation and plays up his ability (which is the real key) he should have a good career in the NFL.
