Mike Mularkey gave his initial thoughts on how he was going to treat the preseason game on Saturday.

More from Titans Draft

Before we get too deep in that, think about this for a second: the Tennessee Titans will be playing football against another team in just around 48 hours. That is just outstanding.

Alright, back to the comments from Mularkey.

Get ready to watch Jack Conklin

The first and most important note that I saw was that Mike Mularkey said very specifically that the whole starting offensive will start beyond when the skill players leave the field. I really like that because they are set on finding the best five players to play on the line, and this will give them a good amount of data on who meshes best together.

When I say beyond the skill position players, some tweet and reactions seem to think that they could even play all the way through the whole first half which would be very fun.

  • Andre Johnson won’t see a ton of snaps

Mularkey said that Johnson won’t see the field a ton, not because they are worried about him or because they don’t expect him to make it. Instead, the head coach said that he wanted to use those reps to look at other wide receivers on the roster.

I would be shocked if we don’t see Tre McBride A LOT over these next four weeks. He has been doing a lot of things in practice and he is a special player as a gunner on special teams. They could really use him on the roster, but I think he will have to show offensive skill to be this team’s 6th WR (which they probably won’t even keep if it isn’t McBride).

    Fundraiser

This is a small note, but for $10,000 each, two fans have bought the rights to call the first two plays of the Tennessee Titans first preseason game. Obviously they aren’t going to pay the Titans, but rather donate that money to charity.

I don’t like this. I would rather them donate the equivalent and then call plays to make sure that Marcus Mariota isn’t put in a weird position.

    Big Derrick Henry

Henry is really starting to play behind his pads, showing up well in blocking drills and laying out a guy in practice today. Now it is time to see him against another team.

Mike Mularkey said that the Titans won’t play DeMarco Murray very much at all, which means that I could see Henry getting the bulk of the carries in the first and second quarters before the backups come in.

    Corner battle

Mularkey said today that Perrish Cox is the leader in the clubhouse for the outside cornerback job, which is no surprise. However, he also said that Brice McCain looks fully healthy, so expect to see them rotate a little during the game but for Cox to get the start outside.
