Don’t worry about Roddy White
By Will Lomas
Roddy White to the Tennessee Titans is an idea that I thought made some sense. That is, before the Titans signed Andre Johnson.

I think Roddy White should have looked at a chance to reunite with the Tennessee Titans as a huge blessing if it was every offered to him. Firstly, he would get a chance to work with the best quarterback in his career (that is a compliment to Marcus Mariota, not a slight towards Matt Ryan).
He would also get the real chance to compete on a team without any wide receivers really locked into a starting job yet.
Finally, he would get to reunited with his long time wide receivers coach and new offensive coordinator Terry Robiskie.

While I thought that possibility was long gone with OTAs over, I thought it was surely dead with the signing of Andre Johnson. However, rumors are floating around again that Roddy White is a potential option for the team. Here is a recent quote on the free agent from Pro Football Talk:
“White was — and still is — on the radar in Tennessee. But he won’t accept a minimum-salary offer. Andre Johnson did, which is why he was recently signed.
But with Johnson’s deal not guaranteed, the Titans can kick tires and, if they decide he can’t truly help the team, move on. Possibly back to White.”
In my opinion, this is probably a play by Roddy White and his agent to kick up interest. They may have had a minimum deal on the table before the Johnson signing, but it may be pulled back now and they are left without a safety net.
In any case, I believe that the receivers who are safe on this roster are:
1. Dorial Green-Beckham
2. Tajae Sharpe
3. Rishard Matthews
4. Kendall Wright
5. Andre Johnson
I believe if there is any other receiver that could make this roster, they are all battling for the 6th job and would need to contribute in special teams or have another clear defining trait to make this roster at this point.

I’m not sure Roddy White has that, and if he is brought in I would speculate that maybe the team has someone interested in Kendall Wright for a trade. If there was a team that featured the slot role heavily in the passing game, he would be the perfect target.
The Titans probably won’t play with a slot as much as in the past, and Wright is in the last year of his deal. With Sharpe and Johnson both capable of playing all three spots, they may feel like this would be the perfect time to capitalize on what value he has.
