For a team to succeed it must have a combination of a good players and good coaches, but there is still something missing. A team must also have a good General Manager.

  • For a general manager to be successful is to listen to the coach to find holes in the team’s roster. After hearing the coach the general manager will have to organize scouts to send out to watch college players who might fit his team. The general manager has to trust these scouts but also do their own homework by checking behind them.

The general manager is also has to put values on players when it comes to resigning a players whose contract has ended, or when the team decides to sign a free agent. It’s also up to the general manager to hustle trades whether it be for a player or draft pick in order to make the team better, although in the bigger cases owners and coaches will have some type of involvement.

Mid you was to ask any expert on how to win Super Bowls all of them will tell you it starts with the draft. Draft night is the night GMs are put to the test. After meeting with coaches and scouts and doing their own homework they must put a draft grade on players, and get the most value they can while filling holes on their rosters.

All in all if the GM fails the team will fail. A NFL football team is made up of more than the 53 players competing on the field. Coaches have to coach and the front office has to give them quality players to coach.

The jury is still out on Jon Robinson and it will be for awhile, but so far all signs point toward a promising future. In his first offseason he stole 2014 NFL rushing leader DeMarco Murray from the Philadelphia Eagles, solidified the offensive line  by signing center Ben Jones and drafting tackle Jack Conklin, signed receiver Rishard Matthews who had a break out year last year, and made some good trades to help the team even more in the future.
