2017 NFL Draft watch: Desmond King
By Will Lomas
There isn’t a lot of news going on in the NFL right now and instead of forcing some new content out there, I think it would be fun to look at some big names in the 2017 NFL Draft.

There are a lot of different ways to look at the 2017 NFL Draft. You can look at a player for the Tennessee Titans and their two 1st round draft picks. You can look for a player who might be a concern in the division. You can look at a player who is a lock to go to a team projected to have a higher pick like the Cleveland Browns. You can even look at a player from a value standpoint to see what the Titans could get in a trade if he was still available at their pick.
So, no player is off limits so just sit back and enjoy reading up on the top players in the 2017 NFL Draft and plan your college television viewing schedule to accommodate the players you want to see most.

Who?
Desmond King may be the player in this upcoming draft that people need to know the most. While other players may be better at their respective positions, King is definitely going to me a Jon Robinson guy.
In short, he is a cornerback from Iowa who was a consensus All-American last year, and the award for being the best defensive back in the nation, over players like Jalen Ramsey and Vernon Hargreaves.
What does he do well?
He is definitely a more physical brand of player than any other corner you will see. While it is usually a plus to see a cornerback come in stick his nose in to make a tackle, King will come in and set the edge. Hard.
Not only does he play with aggression, but he is deceptively smooth and can play in man coverage on the boundary. He flashes very nice hands and always stays right on top of his man which is a key thing for NFL elevators.
On top of that, he has a bunch of little things going for him too. He is a great tackler, he is a leader on his team, he has speed to make something happen with the ball in his hands, and he screams high floor.
Where does he need to improve?
You would like to see him become a more consistent impact player. Last year he had 8 interceptions which is great, but in the prior two years he had only 3 combined. If he can show that he wasn’t just a fluke then he could absolutely be a coveted player.
Does he fit with the Tennessee Titans?
He would come in and give the Titans a true number one cornerback if he plays like he did last year. He is a big guy who isn’t afraid of contact, but who doesn’t rely on grabbing or holding to make plays.
Jason McCourty is a very good finesse player at corner, but he will get bullied by bigger, more physical receivers. This would give the Titans a player to stack up against those guys and make them earn their catches.

Potential selection range?
I think this is a great candidate for the Titans second, first round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. I think they will go pure BPA or trade the earliest pick and then they can look more at need here.
He is the perfect fit for the Titans from a mentality/physicality standpoint. However he isn’t a flashy guy and he doesn’t play for a team that historically puts great defenders into the NFL. Those guys tend to fall a little in the draft thanks to unconscious biases, especially if they don’t jump off the screen with flashy plays.
He makes too much sense if the Titans have a pick in the 8-12 range.
