The Philadelphia Eagles have now fully entered the trade conversation for the Tennessee Titans 1st round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. NFL Trade rumors has a great rundown here that I will be using some quotes from.

More from Titans Draft

These are the quotes that stood out the most:

"“A source tells Peter King of TheMMQB.com that the Titans have a “definite solid offer” for the No. 1 overall pick right now. According to King, if the other team were to sweeten their offer a bit, the Titans could be persuaded to trade back.King adds that the Eagles are considered a team to watch, given that Howie Roseman has been active in the trade market this year and they have the No. 8 overall pick, so the move back wouldn’t be too far for the Titans.“"

Roseman made a play to get into the top-10 of the 2016 NFL Draft by trading some assets to the Miami Dolphins, and many thought that was to land top-tier running back Ezekiel Elliott. However, it could be that the Eagles have been making a play at the top pick all this time.

The question is, are the Eagles ready to trade another big asset to move up in the 2016 NFL Draft all the way up to number one?

Here is what I would expect the trade parameters to start at if I knew this was going to happen for sure:

The Philadelphia Eagles get: The 1st pick in the 2016 NFL Draft.

The Tennessee Titans get: The 8th and 77th (3rd round) picks in the 2016 NFL Draft, the 1st round pick in 2017 and Fletcher Cox.

  • I know, it hurts to see a player as good as Fletcher Cox walk out the door, but this roster is no where near competing for a division crown as is.

The Dallas Cowboys are poised to add a great defender or the best running back in the class to their roster. The New York Giants now have a very dominant defensive line and a franchise quarterback. The Washington Redskins are the reigning division champions somehow and they might have the best quarterback in the division if Romo can’t stay healthy.

So, this team needs a quarterback to compete right now and long term, so they need to make this move. Fletcher Cox is a great player, and he will be great in Tennessee, but I can’t imagine that Philadelphia would rather have him than a chance at a franchise quarterback.

You can also tell that he isn’t a long term fixture in Philly because he hasn’t signed a new deal since joining the Eagles despite other potential free agents all figuring out contract solutions. Since he is scheduled to be a free agent next year, his addition sweetens the pot but doesn’t make it a no brainer. That is what the 3rd round pick is for.

As always, let’s look at potential draft possibilities if this move was made using the Fanspeak simulator.

8th overall pick: Ronnie Stanley OT, Notre Dame

When you have a top-5 caliber prospect who isn’t even the top player at this position, you know you have found good value with the 8th pick. The Titans now have their true right tackle and no controversy about moving Taylor Lewan over to the other side.

33rd overall pick: Josh Doctson WR, TCU

A great receiver who has a huge frame and the penchant for finding the ball in the air. His ability to adjust to passes and go up over defenders is reminiscent of Mike Evans from his time at Texas A&M and he, Dorial Green-Beckham, Kendall Wright, and Delanie Walker would make for a very good offense.

64th overall pick: Robert Nkemdiche NT, Ole Miss

The final piece to the new “Hell on Earth” defensive line, he will play the nose in a penetrating 3-4 alongside Jurrell Casey and Fletcher Cox. That leadership will keep him accountable and with the defensive leaders on this team and Dick LeBeau, the Titans will trust that they can keep Nkemdiche in check and get the most out of him.

77th overall pick: Tyler Boyd WR, Pitt

I passed on him at the top, but there is no way you can ignore a player who is this much better than the other available. Boyd is a clean route runner and he should immediately compete for time inside or outside. The New England Patriots are known for their lack of emotion when the potential for trading a current player comes up.

Maybe this moves leads to something like trading Kendall Wright (who may not be happy in Tennessee) to the Patriots, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Detroit Lions, or Atlanta Falcons (all teams with Bill Belichick ties) for a 2017 2nd/3rd rounder.
