There is a lot of potential trade information going on today centering around the Tennessee Titans and the top pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. The first thing I want to focus on is the potential move that makes the most sense, the Tennessee Titans and San Francisco 49ers working out a trade.

More from Titans Draft

What’s new?

Well, first off there is a tweet from someone who definitely knows what he is talking about: Greg Arias of Scout.com.

Arias is very close to the Titans organization and has sources inside. This morning he tweeted this:

Though as I wrote late last week, sources tell me San Fran is working “feverishly” to try to make deal with #Titans.”

So, that is pretty big news. I also wrote last week that the Titans and 49ers could work out a deal for the top pick in the draft, with theses parameters:

The San Francisco 49ers receive: The 1st and 64th (3rd round) pick in the 2016 NFL Draft.

Total value= 3,270 points.

The Tennessee Titans receive: The 7th, 37th (2nd round), 68th (3rd round), and their 2017 1st round pick.”

  • However I think something came out today that could make a lot of sense in this potential deal. There are rumors that the San Francisco 49ers are trying to trade veteran safety Antoine Bethea and talented right tackle Anthony Davis.

If those rumors are true, then the Tennessee Titans may have some serious conversations about lowering their price. So, what’s fair value on a revised deal?

The going rate for talented players is a 5th round pick. It happened this year with Ryan Clady and it happened last year for Brandon Marshall. With Bethea being a Pro-Bowl safety the last time he was healthy and Anthony Davis being a stalwart offensive tackle during the 49ers prime I think that is fair value.

So, a 5th round pick at best is worth 35 points, so two would equal 70 points. So, here is a revised deal:

The San Francisco 49ers receive: The 1st pick and in the 2016 NFL Draft.

The Tennessee Titans receive: The 7th, 37th (2nd round), Anthony Davis, Antoine Bethea, and their 2017 1st round pick.

Just throwing in those two players may be enough for the 49ers to keep their 3rd round draft pick, which is huge for a general manager. However think about what this does for the Tennessee Titans.

-They now have two picks in the 2017 NFL Draft, and one of them belongs to a team that will have a rookie quarterback that has to play against the defenses of the L.A. Rams, Seattle Seahawks and the Arizona Cardinals with an offense that really only has one decent weapon. That pick could end up being a top-10 pick easily.

-They also solidify their right tackle and safety spot so that there is no position that they HAVE to take with the top pick in the NFL Draft.

Alright so, let’s run a Fanspeak simulation of where they could go given those two moves, using their composite board:

7th overall: Laremy Tunsil OT, Ole Miss

I kid you not the first six picks of the 2016 NFL Draft went like this:

    1. 49ers-Vernon Hargreaves III CB, Florida

    2. Browns- Jalen Ramsey CB, FSU

    3. Chargers- Joey Bosa DE, OSU

    4. Cowboys- Carson Wentz QB, NDST

    5. Jaguars- Deforest Buckner DL, Oregon

    6. Baltimore- Myles Jack LB, UCLA

All of this despite Tunsil being the top player on their board. Hey, I don’t care if I have a solid right tackle already on board, he missed last season so he isn’t a sure thing to be game ready immediately. I am taking Tunsil and kicking Davis inside to left guard or using him as a swing tackle.

33rd overall: Darron Lee LB, Ohio State

A pure value pick, Lee is the sort of rangy player that makes Ramsey so interesting for the Titans. Lee should be able to stay on the field every down and can do everything from cover to blitz and he can easily be integrated into the Dick LeBeau defense.

37th overall: Corey Coleman WR, Baylor

Coleman has speed to kill and his athleticism will be used on offense and special teams and gives the Tennessee Titans something they desperately need: a playmaker.

So, that is how that draft could shake out and it would make this team an instant contender for the AFC South crown.
