Scattered across the Top 15 of the NFL Draft board are at least 3 teams interested in grabbing a quarterback. The Cleveland Browns at No.2, the San Francisco 49ers at No.7 and The Los Angeles Rams at No.12 and No.14 have all expressed notable interest.

Each of the three teams are in a unique situation as their picks are spread out by 5 slots, making it a large leap and a hefty price tag to move up ahead of the competition.

An important fact to note: projections of quarterbacks for teams mirror the range in which their performance matches the draft position. For instance, Memphis quarterback Paxton Lynch grades out as a mid-first round prospect and in perfect range for the Rams, but that does not mean the Rams like him as a prospect.

In most cases, a front office starts to fall in love with one of the prospects more than the others as they continue watching film and researching. And that is where the Titans come in. There is a good chance as the lights dim in Chicago and the clock starts ticking that one of the teams does not want to see “their guy” slip away.

Every team has inside information that leads to a sense of what the other teams are leaning toward doing, although no other team really knows. The 49ers cannot be sure who the Browns will take, Jared Goff or Carson Wentz, if even a quarterback. We also don’t know if the 49ers and Browns will have their mind made on the same guy. No team wants to play their hand and that is when the Titans get a call.

The Rams are another interesting opportunity for the Titans. Even though the Rams sit outside the top 10, the Rams have two first round picks (12 and 14), an asset that could make a trade more of a reality. The elite talent such as  Ronnie Stanley, Vernon Haregraves, and Miles Jack would be off the board by the time No.12 rolls around but that doesn’t mean they couldn’t get two very good players. Two prospects at twelve and fourteen the Titans could consider are OT Luke Conklin from Michigan State and LB Reggie Ragland from Alabama. Both players are tough nosed players that fit Mike Mularkey’s style.

Each of the teams listed have their immediate reasons for wanting to drafting a quarterback and considering trading for the number one pick.

  • Browns: Have a Quarterback Guru as a Head Coach in Hue Jackson that could groom the prospect. Can have the pick of the liter if the 49ers or Rams do not trade up ahead of them.

49er’s: New coach Chip Kelly is well-known for wanting his guy at the helm, and Colin Kapernick does not seem to be that guy. The 49ers have been in discussions with the Broncos about a deal that would send Kapernick to Denver, although Kapernick’s contract has been the hold up. A deal may get done before the draft or on draft night. If not, Chip Kelly would be the last guy to count out on still going for the guy he wants.

Rams: The Rams have found a new home in the City of Angels. Los Angeles is known for it’s stars and future star quarterback would be the perfect recipe for luring in fans in Southern California.

All of the prospective teams have reasons to make a splash and jump to Number one if they feel the quarterback they want will be off the board. Ifone thing is certain, it’s that the Titans phone will be on and ringing.
