Ole Miss and Florida State had their Pro Days in a 24 hour period and if anyone was expecting some clarity out of this they are going to be sorely disappointed. Let’s take a look at the days.

More from Titans Draft

Laremy Tunsil and Ole Miss

The Titans sent a contingent to the Ole Miss Pro Day including Mike Mularkey, Jon Robinson, a few head scouts, and offensive line coach Russ Grimm. In fact, it was Grimm that was running the offensive line drills that took place in Mississippi.

All reports are glowing on Tunsil, with Jon Robinson using his now standard line of “he could cut grass with his feet” that we have heard so many times before. On top of his elite foot speed (which shouldn’t be dismissed based on how this team could use more zone running concepts next year) he also showed overwhelming power on the bench.

  • While this isn’t always indicative of true play strength, for a guy that broke his leg just over a year ago, being able to rebuild your based and drive through the bar with the power he did spoke volumes to his tenacity off the field. Tunsil ended up with 34 reps at 225 lb., which a quick calculation would show translates to well over 321 lb. (it actually breaks their metric) and from personal experience I would say it is actually closer to the 450+ range.

Jon Robinson said this in this video that he is impressed with his size, talent, athleticism, and his film against some of the top tier pass rushers in college football. Which of course he is right about, rarely do you see a tackle be nearly uncontested as the top pick in a draft and he has been that for most of the draft process.

    Jalen Ramsey and Florida State

Not to be outdone, Jalen Ramsey earned trips from all of the same coaches as Tunsil with Dick LeBeau taking the place of Russ Grimm.

Ramsey again garnered a lot of attention and respect from the national media. He is an elite athlete who has tested in the 99% range of SPARQ scores, so it makes sense that a day where he can run without pads and show off his range would be a big boost to him.

While I don’t know Robinson’s thoughts, I think it is fairly obvious that he is one of their top choices and that the fact that he grew up in Tennessee makes that connection even stronger. Though Robinson won’t let that make his decision for him, and Ramsey knows that.

In an interview today where he said that he had been contact a lot with the Titans, he said that if he goes number one, he wants it to be because he is the best player, not because he grew up in Tennessee. Which is the right way to go about this.

    More from Titan Sized

Honestly, the closer we get to draft day the more I flip and flop between these two prospects. Do you take the guy with the potential to be an elite safety, which is such a rare commodity in the league, and take a chance to maybe get the next Troy Polamalu? Or do you take the left tackle who strengthens two positions, literally and figuratively. A pick that would likely ensure the healthy of your young franchise quarterback and bolster the running game so that the offense runs much more smoothly in 2016.

I don’t know, but it will be very fun to find out where the Titans go in this draft. No pressure Jon Robinson.
