The 2016 NFL Draft is fast approaching, and the Tennessee Titans are on the clock. After yet another losing season, fans are calling for improvement across the whole team. Tennessee has a glaring problem with the offensive line, as well as noticeable holes in the defense.

GM Jon Robinson has stated that he is “not married to the (number one) pick” and that it will take a “king’s ransom” to trade it.  If Tennessee is to hold onto it, it is likely that they will draft Laremy Tunsil, Jalen Ramsey, or Joey Bosa in the first round.

It’s no secret that the Titans lack quarterback protection. Tennessee has found a true franchise quarterback in Marcus Mariota, and it’s time to build around him. They need someone to control the pass rush, and most importantly, keep Mariota standing tall in the pocket.

Laremy Tunsil, a 6’5 offensive tackle out of Mississippi State could be just the guy for this. With a great deal of balance, quickness, and exceptional footwork, Tunsil is easily the best offensive lineman in the draft. Throughout college, Tunsil proved to be an adept reader of defenses as well. If drafted, it is likely that an improving Taylor Lewan would be moved to right tackle. The pair could make for a dynamic duo of O-line bookends.

  • Tennessee’s defense has greatly improved since the 2014-2015 season, but still frequently gives up major plays. Aside from Jurrell Casey, the team lacks a true defensive star. Florida State cornerback, Jalen Ramsey, could potentially be this person. He allowed a completion rate of just 38.5 percent in his college career, batting down a number of passes. He is a big bodied, powerful player with excellent speed and size. With players like Sensabaugh and Griffin gone, the Titans have empty spaces to fill on the defensive side, and Ramsey could fit nicely into one of them.

Another potential option for a standout defensive player is Ohio State‘s Joey Bosa. Bosa has been compared to players like JJ Watt, and has the potential to be a major force in Tennessee. As a Buckeye, Bosa boasted a total of 5 forced fumbles, 26 sacks, and 148 tackles. Bosa is confident in his abilities, and believes he is the best player in the 2016 draft. “I think (I’m) the best best pass rusher, the best defensive lineman in the country”, he told the media during the combine. He is also confident in his adaptability, and has stated that he is comfortable playing in any defensive scheme.

Tennessee is a team in a total state of rebuilding, and we can’t expect the first pick to be a quick fix. But, any of these three candidates would certainly help put Tennessee back on track.
