Colin Kaepernick is one of if not the biggest name in the NFL this offseason in terms of a player that will really shake things up on draft day. The former star quarterback is looking for a new start and wants out of San Francisco, while teams like the Cleveland Browns and Denver Broncos seem willing to give him another shot.

More from Titans Draft

On first blush, this looks like a trade that will benefit the other team but will ultimately hurt the quarterback market. A down quarterback market hurts the Titans chances of making a splash on draft say. So therefore this trade should be bad for the Titans right? Well, not so fast.

If the Cleveland Browns botch this (which feels inevitable at this point) then the prime candidate for San Fransisco is Denver. While the Broncos added a backup in Mark Sanchez, they don’t have a starter and they still have a championship caliber defense. This would give them a young quarterback who doesn’t have to do too much to be a star again. This is ultimately the best case for all parties, including the Titans.

  • A trade for the Denver Broncos second round pick would give the 49ers the 7th overall pick, the 37th overall pick and the 63rd overall pick. If they were to package those as a deal with the Titans for the first overall pick it would end up being about 700 “points” shy of a fair deal according to the Drafttek trade value chart. That means that if the 49ers really wanted to push the issue a future 1st or 2nd would make it impossible for the Titans to pass on.

The Titans would end up with the 7th overall pick and three picks in the 2nd round, and the deal may or may not include a future 1sr or 2nd.

The Titans could end up landing:

1st round: Ronnie Stanley RT, Notre Dame

2nd round: William Jackson CB, Houston

2nd round: Vonn Bell S, Ohio State

2nd round: Braxton Miller/Michael Thomas WR, Ohio State

Which would fix all of the major holes on their team. They could focus on BPA and trading back to get more picks in next years draft to set up another great draft class.
